Monday's the day

Being a panic anxiety disorder sufferer ... and having spent the past 2-3 months preparing for the big day - Monday February 10 - I'm quietly looking forward to at least getting a good sleep for an hour or so during the operation.

I've heard all the horror stories ... it's just like when you're getting ready to have your first child - everyone seems to have a labour horror story and everyone seems to have a hysterectomy horror story.

I've put off this op for ages ... but have been told my uterus is getting so big (one of my ovaries is resting on my hipbone) that the risks involved etc are only getting worse the longer I put it off.

As I run a newspaper and am very hands-on ... until I heard about the op my staff couldn't put out a newspaper without me ... so I haven't had a holiday for a while ... until now.

I am nervous ... that's an understatement ... but this site has given me some great feelings (for the first time in some weeks). It's great to see the positive and negatives and the fact that it seems that even those who have found some negatives still seem to be smiling and relieved at having had the op.

Will keep you posted from the Land Down Under.

Monday's the day

Hi CJ, nice to see another aussie girl in here

Good Luck for Monday! Enjoy your much needed "deep sleep" during the op (I had to laugh at that) and take it easy in your recovery. Now it is time to be hands OFF and let your staff show you what they're made of. You must take your recuperation very seriously and let them all get on with it.

The countdown is pretty stressful and you will feel such a sense of relief when you wake up from your deep sleep on Monday. Like you, I put the inevitable off for a long time and the big decision was a difficult one. But finally I just had to face reality and be mentally and physically prepared. There was no decision in the end, I was almost begging to have the op as my symptoms had become awful too.

Sometimes you only tend to hear of the complicated stories but there are millions of women out there who are walking around happy and healthy and who have never felt better in their lives. All the women I know in "real life" who have undergone hysterectomies say it is the best thing they did, wished they'd had it done sooner etc. Yes, every single one of them.

Take care, and let us know you go in the post op messages. You'll be fine!

love to you

Monday's the day

Hi there CJ from sunny Queensland

I know you won't see this post until you are back home, so I hope all went well for you.

I found this site 2 weeks pre op and it just provided me with so much information and I felt really good going into hospital well informed.

When you are back home, take all the time needed to let your body heal completely - the paper won't fold without you (no pun intended).

Don't make me send the pillow police to SA from up here!!!

Hugs and regards
