pre op hints for post op

Hi ladies, I wanted to add a note about a couple of things that helped me. A friend loaned me an elastic, wide belt with velcro called a kidney belt that her husband uses when riding trail bikes. I wore it for all of the walking necessary to avoid gas starting in the hospital the day after surgery until about a week after. I also drank prune juice starting in the hospital and avoided the constipation. Once home I napped whenever I wanted and abdicated responsibility for the condition of the house or meals. No one will starve. When people said they will help, I gave them something to do. I had a little bit of bladder spaz and it helped to go potty a lot so that a full bladder wouldn't be available for a surprize attack by a sneeze. Last, I have been rubbing Mederma on my scar and it is improving a lot. Best wishes, Barbara (artbyfry)

Good suggestions, you're so right about the attitude that the family can take care of themselves for a while.

It's a good idea to check with your DR before using a "belly binder", or the type of support belt Barbara used. Also ask before putting anything on your incision.

Best wishes!

i saw my surgeon today for pre-op. she said i should wait 10-12 days after surgery before putting anything on my incision. she suggested mixing vitamen E with cocoa butter and putting that on the incision at night.
