Periods after hysterectomy

Hi Ladies

I have had conflicting stories about periods after a hysterectomy so I thought that I would come to the best place for the real truth.

I am having a TAH on the 7th March, as far as I know my ovaries and tubes will not be removed, will I still have periods?
Some people have told me yes, and some have said no, so over to the ladies who are in the know

Periods after hysterectomy

Hi Cathy--

Is your doctor removing just your uterus and leaving your cervix? It is my understanding that if you keep your cervix *and* ovaries, you can still have "mini-periods".

If you click the search button (top of page) and type in "mini periods", you will find several threads to read on this subject.

Best of luck to you!

Periods after hysterectomy

Hi
No uterus, no periods. A menstrual period is the shedding of the lining of the uterus. If you don't have one, there is nothing to shed. My Dr. asked me if I miss my uterus. I said, "You're kidding, right?" It's great not to have that to worry about anymore. Best wishes to you!

Periods after hysterectomy

Hi,

Since you're having a TAH, that means the total uterus, which includes the cervix, so no you won't have any mini periods.

But keeping your ovaries you will still be "cycling" through the month, if you have PMS now you may still have it after, although it may not be as noticeable.

Best wishes!
