Sorry to hear your having urinary problems....great big 's are coming your way!!

I've always had urgency and stress issues with my "twitchy" bladder. I tried Ditropan last year with no results and am now on Detrol LA. I still have the "full bladder" feeling always and GYN sent me to a Uro. He did an exam and then cathed me and did a proceedure that is both diagnostic and therapuetic by filling the bladder and actually looking inside it with a scope. What he found was that my bladder is small and that I also have Interstitial Cystitis, which is inflammation of the interior wall of the bladder.

No known cause or cure. It can be controlled with medication and diet. No acidic foods and stay away from coffee. I switched to decaf herbal tea or Shade grown organic coffee. At this point, I haven't really noticed any improvement, but I'm having other pelvic issues that is overshadowing the bladder pain.

Uro did say that if there is no improvement within 3 months, he will do the same proceedure he did in his office but in a Day Surgery setting so I can be out. It's very painful having the bladder filled with the inflammation present, and then having a small one to boot!!!

So...I'm not really sure if I helped you out but if you have questions, write them down and take them with you. That has always helped me. I wish you the best.

This doesn't really follow your question but I noticed you were both had surgery for endo. The reason I went in for my emergency surgery for my TAH/BSO was because my bladder was being stretched (adhesions/endo) so far that I had lost all capacity. When my endo returned the first thing that I noticed was frequency of urination. Once I quit the hormones my bladder problems cleared up.

Did your doctors have to take endo adhesions off your bladder? I'm just wondering if it is related.

The first time I went to the urologist he asked alot of detailed question about what problems I was having. We spent about 30 minutes going over everything.

He than decided to have a look inside my bladder. I think it was called a cysto something. They numbed my vaginal area and inserted a little tube and blew air into the bladder while he looked inside. The doc saw some inflammation and told me that I have a very short and small urether, that may need to be dialated.

I was than given a plastic bucket to take home and I was to keep a bladder diary for 48 hours. I had to measure all my intake and measure how much I urinated and how often.

I was also scheduled for another test. During this test they fill your bladder with water and you tell them how it feels at certain levels. They record these measure on a computer. Finally, when you absolutely can't take it anymore they stop and you are allowed to urinate and they measure how much comes out.

The urologist I went to (whom I wasn't very pleased with) basically told me that I have an overactive bladder. He said nothing more about the inflammation or the urether.

I'm sure each doctor is different and will have different procedures and bedside manners.

Good luck with your appointment! Do let us know how it goes.

Hi,

I had a bladder sling along with my TAH. The urologist put me on Ditropan for a month prior to surgery (she said it would get my bladder in better condition for the surgery). Anyway, I found it very constipating, so you may need to take a fiber supplement or stool softeners to help keep things moving while on the Ditropan.

Good luck,

Mary
