Anyone else have stitches coming out of skin?

So. here's a weird one - I'm not worried about it, just curious. A few days ago I noticed a little sore, pimple-like thing on my right side about 1/2 inch below my incision. It started looking like maybe an ingrown hair - didn't you ladies LOVE that dry shaving they did pre-op?! I gently worked on it and got it out this morning and it's a stitch with a knot in one end. Did it work it's way through the skin because I was overdoing it, or can I just expect little "surfacings" here and there? Does this indicate that the internal stitches are at the dissolving stage? Who else has had this happen?

stitches surfacing

Let me tell you, mine have done the same thing.
I asked the doc about it and he said that some people just don't dissolve the sutures. Your body is just rejecting what it doesn't need. Mine have been doing that for a couple of weeks now and I just either finish pulling them out or I cut them off.
Just don't hurt yourself doing it. I am now 4 weeks post.
I wouldn't worry about the stitch thing unless you notice some pus or excessive bleeding. It can be normal for some people.

and take care

I too had the stitches coming out (Just a couple ). My BIL (a surgeon) explained to me that it is not uncommon. He stated that it is a foreign object in the body and that the body sometimes kicks it out if it doesn't dissolve fast enough. I had the same thing happen on my neck too a couple of years ago when I had a cyst cut out but instead of 1 or 2 there was 5-6 that did it.

Stitches

Oh thanks everyone. I just noticed yesterday that I had a stitch coming out of the end of my incision which is healed over and was pulling on it thinking it was a little piece of dry skin or adhesive from the tape, lol. I also had one of those little pimple type eruptions too. Now I understand. Thanks

Same here...have a little white knot at the very edge of the incision. Wasn't sure what it was, and I'm not as flexible as I used to be 4 weeks ago, so I call my husband over to look at it under the magnifying glass. He's very helpful....ahem...and his comment was "wow, you should see how big that scar looks with this thing...". Okay, well that's his last look for a while!
