What to expect from post op exam?

Hi there,

I just want to be prepared in my head - what should I expect at the post op exam? I'm going in on Monday - it will have been 3 weeks. Will she (DR) have to go in and take a look or just feel around? I am so tired of being dug around in - you know what I mean? And when she pulls out the bigger thingamajig (for the life of me - the name of the tool to open you up is evading me right now) I just clamp up at the thought of it.

Thanks in advance for your answers...

I won't lie to you. It's not going to be fun but it won't be horrible either. She will have a look see and take it from there. She'll probably have to use that big ugly speculum but hopefully she will have warmed it up! s and good luck!

exam

Hi! I'm new here, but my doc did a post-op exam the week after my surger, (last week). She did do a pelvic, and I was pretty nervous, but much to my surprise, it didn't hurt at all.

Good luck!

What to expect from post op exam?

Jenny,

My check was at 5 weeks. Manual only - no speculum. Every doctor is a little different.

Did not hurt at all. In fact I remember thinking - wow, that did not hurt at all - cool!

Before the exam, I was quite nervous about it hurting too. I think we all are - its a perfectly normal concern.

You might find it helpful to write down any questions you have. I almost left without my work release and that was the main thing I needed to get from the appt.

Take care!

What to expect from post op exam?

Hi I did have the the big ugly thing that did not hurt surprizingly. I seize all the time on that. he didn't open it fully and it didn't feel like he put it all the way in. It was the finger rooting that hurt the most for me. I also had a back passage exam done but that because of complications now that was a diffierent story. But I wouldn't worry. Just breath threw it. Good Luck.

Post-op exam

I went in at 5 weeks expecting to be released from my restrictions (hoping anyway), and my DR found some granulation which needed to be cauterized with silver nitrate.

None of this hurt, but now I have to wait three more weeks for that release. But I am really glad he "looked" and fixed things that I didn't even know were wrong.

Good Luck!

What to expect from post op exam?

I went in last Tuesday for my 2 weeks post op and was expecting a vaginal exam. She did not do one, she only checked my incision and asked me questions about how I was doing. I asked about vaginal and she said at my next appointment when I have healed more. She said everything was fine.

So I guess every doctor is different. Best wishes to you.

What to expect from post op exam?

Just had my 3 week check-up today.

Dr. did not do an internal exam. Only looked and pushed around a little at my incisions and answered all of my questions. He said that I can drive now but still no lifting, sweeping, vaccuming, etc.

He said he would do the internal at my 6 week follow-up.

Best of luck.
