Anyone had a DVT prior to hyster?

I've had blood clots before and estrogen is not an option for me. I am 37 and getting ready for a hyster ... the doc is going to keep ovaries and remove a cyst on the left -- but the probability is high that I have endo (along with cysts and a fibroid).

Anyone been in this situation (not having estrogen as a therapy option). I'm 37, I'm too young for surgical menopause.

Clues anyone?

Thanks,

Diana

Anyone had a DVT prior to hyster?

Hi Diana---and welcome to Hystersisters!

Glad you found this site---it has a wealth of information and support. There are ladies here who are not able to take estrogen after a hyst.....check out the "No Hormone Oasis" message board, the ladies there have lots of good input and advice on life without hormones.

Also, have you found the pre-op hints in the drop down menus? Here's the pre-op directory---

http://www.hystersisters.com/dirpre.php

Lots of good info in preparing for your surgery, and also what to expect post op at---

Read as much as you can and keep posting any questions that come up for you---and definitely check out the "No Hormone Oasis" for your concerns about no HRT.

Best wishes to you!

Anyone had a DVT prior to hyster?

Hi Diana,
I had a DVT 6 years ago in my left subclavian vein and am due for a LAVH, BSO on 3/13. I,too, wondered about not being able to take estrogen post-hyst. I just keep reading and looking on this site for info.

Have they talked about giving you heparin before, during and after your surgery? they have discussed the possibility with me and when I go in for pre-op appt. they will let me know what they are going to do. Ask you Dr.

Heparin / coumadin pre and post op

Hi KJR5:

I am actually scheduled to go meet with a hematologist beforehand to work through the preventative stuff. I've had 3 major knee reconstructions and always had the blood thinning. I MORE than insisted on this with my doc (just made sure to remind them that this is an issue). I am also pushing for them to try to save an ovary (that is the plan - but it depends on endo).

There is a section of this site that deals with the no hormones piece -- I'm covering all the bases!

Best wishes on your trip to the castle -- mine is scheduled for 3/19 Woo Hoo ....

Diana
