7 weeks Post op, no ovaries, night sweats
Ok, maybe someone here could guide me a bit. I had a TVH 7 weeks ago and have had some scary things happening. My gyn told me that I would have no signs of menopause because we left my ovaries. Anyway, here is what we (me and dh) have noticed. My hair and face get VERY oily. I never had greasy hair before. We used to go camping for 3-4 days at a time where we were nowhere near a shower and I never got greasy hair even then. Next, I am MOODY, more than usual. The one that gets me the most is the night sweats. I will wake up and kick off all the covers because I am sweating so bad and then wake up again freezing because I am wet and cold.
What the heck is going on with me. At first I thought it would pass quickly as some of the other boards say, but now I am worried a bit. I see the doctor on Thursday for my final post op and just need to know what to ask him.
Thanks so much!
Keri

for many women their ovaries "go to sleep" from the shock of surgery. most wake up but some don't. your dr may want to try you on some estrogen for a bit of time to level things out for you.

Keri,
You are still fairly early in your recovery. It is my understanding that during a hyst the blood supply to the ovaries is cut off for a time. It is not unusual for them to take awhile to wake back up. The symptoms you are experiencing do sound like sleeping ovaries. Or they could be in the process of waking back up causing alot of fluctuation in your hormone levels.
Given some more time they may wake up. I don't know that there's a set time period for this to happen, but I would give it a bit more time. I would still make a list of your symptoms to take in with you to the so you can discuss this with him/her.
There's some good information on hormones in the pull down menus at www.hormonejungle.com
Good luck with your doctor visit. Do let us know the outcome.
