First Shot of Lupron $$$$$!

Well, I did it. My Dr. really wanted to make sure that I understood that I would never be able to have any more children if I opted for the hysterectomy. I told him that I wanted my life back to spend with the ones that I have (7 yr old DD and 3 yr old stepson).

We decided to start the Lupron, but one quick call to the ins. postponed that for a few hours. My ins. will pay only if the Dr. writes out a prescrip and I go to a pharmacy to fill it. I then have to bring it back to the Dr. for the injection. UGH!! However, my DH drove around town all day to find a pharmacy that had it in stock and finally did. I was a little aggitated with the ins. company until I saw the price tag on the med. bag! My eyes about popped out of my head! LOL. All I could think was..."I have to have two more of these???" So, the DH's journey we decided was worth it since they are at least going to pay for it. LOL

Anyway, my journey has begun. Thanks for all of the info that I have received and continue to receive.

First Shot of Lupron $$$$$!

Hi crickett,

I have seen other posts mentioning how awfully expensive the Lupron shots are. I'm glad that you have insurance to help cover all or part of the cost.

Please keep on reading and posting, and be sure to let us know when you have a date for your castle stay.

Lupron $$

I had three shots of Lupron in the months previous to my TAH BSO 13 years ago. Thirteen years ago they were $300 each.

I am also on Lupron and was wondering why your on Lupron. I still had a period even thogh I take the Lupron shot every 3 months. I did not realize it was that expensive. I guess that's why the Dr is reccomeding the Hyster.

Lupron is Expensive!

I took the 3-month shot last Sept. and had to do it the same way, getting the Rx filled at the drugstore and being reimbursed by insurance. Luckily I had seen the cost on some websites when I was doing research or I would have fainted when the clerk said it was $1400! It was fully reimbursed by our insurance, though, thank heaven.

First Shot of Lupron $$$$$!

I was on the monthly Lupron shot for 6 months prior to my TVH. I was on it to shrink my fibroids and uterus small enough to remove them through the vagina. It worked! I stopped getting my period after the first shot. It was so nice to have 6 months of pain-free no bleeding!!!!! Now, I'll have that forever!!! I was shocked when I picked up my first shot, paid my $5.00, and saw that insurance paid $465.00.

To vicster - You said you guess your DR is suggesting a hysterectomy since you are still bleeding on Lupron. Just for your info - you can only be on Lupron for a limited time, 6 months for the monthly shot, I'm not sure about the 3-month shot. After that, the Lupron will start affecting your bone density. Once you stop taking it, everything will go back to the way it was (for me, the fibroids would enlarge again). Lupron puts you into a temporary menopause, and can include any and all menopause symptoms, although night sweats, hot flashes and vaginal dryness are the most common. I only had hot flashes, and loved them since I am always freezing. These symptoms will go away once the Lupron is out of your system.

First Shot of Lupron $$$$$!

Hey! Glad to see I was not the only one shocked by the price. I pay a $15 co pay and the ins. paid $462. First one down though and two more to go. Since it was just yesterday, I have no idea how I will respond to it.

To answer the other question, I am on Lupron to shrink a fibroid that is about the size of my uterus. Hopefully it will go down enough to have a vaginal hysterectomy. BCP's did nothing except let me know when my period would start. I still had major pains and heavy bleeding. I am hoping no more periods since I just ended my cycle and then turned around and had the shot. Who knows though.

Thanks for listening to me grip about the price!
