Sunday March 2nd 2003

Hey everyone. What a beauty day yesterday. It was sunny and warm. The girls played outside in the snow for 2 and a half hours. I got tons of housework done. Today we are tackling the basement. I am on a roll. The playroom is disgusting.

Yesterday we went to Swiss Chalet with the neighbours. It was nice then they ordered me the most sinful peice of cake you ever saw( to boot it was a flavor I hate) well now I am stuck right. You have to eat it. I was sooooooooooooo miffed. So I ate 3 bites then said I would take it home as I was full. Hubby had a bite and said to sweet and would not eat it either. Well guess where it is going. Intentions were awesome butttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Another right off day for me. I have got to get back at it.

I hope you all have a super day. I am hoping to get some reading in today. Snowy day with a good book. Yup life is good

Sunday~March 2

Hi everyone,

Before I tell my woes, I hope everyone has a super Sunday!

Well I ended up going to an emergi-center yesterday for my back pain and other symptoms. No conclusive results: I either have a kidney stone (blood in urine) or shingles. If a rash appears, I have shingles. At least I got some pain medication. When I get up in the mornings I feel fairly good, but as the day wears on the pain gets worse and worse and the itching and numbness on my right side seem to increase. Because of all this, I am drinking tons of fluids--my usual water and lots of cranberry juice. No exercise yesterday, but I don't think it will hurt if I try doing my yoga so I'm going to go do that.

Bliss--Sounds like you are having a great time--that is what life is about. Your attitude is right on--you're making changes and not being "perfect" all the time. Sometimes when we're perfect, it's too much of a radical change for us and then we go completely the other way.

stews--Saturdays and Sundays can be great for laziness, especially the gray days we've been having here . . .

Ann--Wonderful compliment from your neighbor and I think you did great on your dinner out!

Sherry--Hope you'll love the yoga class. Balance?? Sounds like a name she adopted or either she had yoga fanatic parents and had to follow her destiny !

Tamara--1/2 lb is negligible. Your dinner did sound yummy. Yes, where is Xena? Hope all is okay with her.

Dany--Welcome back! So glad you worked it out to get to Orlando and meet your buddies including our dear Ann.

Will check in later if I feel up to it.

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Shirly we must have posted at the same time. I am sure Ann or Dani will fix it for us later.

Holy Crap woman. Are you okay. UMMMMMMMMM I would say who cares about the exercise right now until you start to feel better. You are right very inconclusive report on what you may or maynot have. How long before you would know if it was shingles? I mean does the rash come out soon. I hope it is not shingles I hear they are painful.

Keep us posted on how you are feeling

Take care

Shirley, hope you are feeling better very soon. I've had shingles and I didn't like it at all, but I would think kidney stones would be very nasty.

Hope everyone has an OP day and is out and about enjoying life as best they can.

Hi all --

Yes Katie I came along and "fixed" it.......merged the two threads that were started for today...........no problem!! Good for you for not eating that cake, since you don't like it anyway!

Shirley -- sure hope you are feeling better soon!! Either one, a kidney stone or shingles, does not sound like fun. I wouldn't worry too much about the exercise right now.........I don't think the yoga will bother you but I don't blame ya if you don't feel like even doing that. Don't know about you, but usually if I have to take anything stronger than Advil for pain, it makes me kinda droopy. Did they recommend any more tests or are you just waiting to see what happens as far as the rash or the kidney stone?

Sherry -- makes you wonder where these instructors get their names doesn't it? I have an instructor named Lovelight. The owner of my gym is a guy named Pleasant. Go figure.

I just got back from a trip to the grocery store. Got lots of healthy stuff (salad, cottage cheese......I just read somewhere that cottage cheese is one of the highest sources of protein there is.........fat-free Klondike bars, first time to try them.........yogurt......turkey........stocked up for a week's worth of healthy meals!! Had to laugh though. Got a big thing of liquid laundry detergent and the guy cashier said "whew! that's a heavy one!" when he lifted it to scan it. Poor baby!! He needs to come to the gym and do with me if he can't lift that!!

I have been missing Xena too. I sent her a PM this morning to tell her we've been missing her and asked that if she doesn't have time to post here, to please respond to my PM and let us know that she is ok.

By the way.........does anybody have any good ideas as to what to do with the huge bag of kumquats my neighbor gave me?? I looked up recipes but mostly found recipes for making jam or jelly which all involve tons of sugar........and I'm not into sterilizing jars.

Have a great day everybody...........FEEL BETTER SHIRLEY!!

S to all!

I've changed my avatar cuz I am now in countdown mode for Florida & the cruise! Wish I was in your area Ann so that I could see you in person. Of course end of the week weather predictions are for cloudy weather, but even the 60's will be great!

OK - tell me what "grouper" tastes like - is it a fishy tasting fish? I see it on some of the restaurant menus I've been lokking at.

One thing I have been trying to do, when I have my afternoon coffee, instead of cookies or toast, I've been having a zone bar...prob similar in calories, but at least they are "good" calories...I really like the lemon yogurt type.

I'll be back tomorrow for a good post-chat with you all.

Take care

Hello BEST sisters!

Oh no, Shirley! Many s I couldn’t be any more sorry to hear of your troubles. Either way, it’s a big bummer. Sure hope things improve rapidly.
(thanks for missing me! You’re a sweetie!)

Katie, what did you eat at the swiss chalet? I’ve only had swiss food a couple of times & it was gooood. Roestie and raclette.and sausages, Mmmmmm. Why does cheese have to be so good, and yet soooo bad????? Good thinking to be too full to eat the oh-so-not-worth-it cake!
I’m with you, life IS good (and it sure beats the alternative )

Ann, very cool that you’ve stocked your house with op foods for the week. (and how cool to know you could take the grocery clerk! yeah, we’re bad…

Stews, I like the sound of your morning yesterday. You’ve ha so much stress lately and a morning like that can really recharge the old batteries, can’t it?

Sunday March 2nd 2003

Happy Sunday BEST Friends!! I've cut and pasted a couple of times so I hope I don't start repeating myself!

Welcome Melissa, we are looking forward to getting to know you and sharing support. Heaven knows we all need it

This weekend has been a bust for me. Brownie cupcakes yesterday, DH and I each ate too many, felt yucky, but each felt like we "needed" them. There was frosting left so I made a different kind of cupcake, one that might be considered lighter, and then of course I BLT'd (bites, licks, and tastes) my way through the making of them. Frosting is still too sweet, and I seem to be obsessed with making it something I remember from 35 years ago. I thought I had let that craving go - but nooooo, it's still lurking. Naughty Fred

So I have done everything I can to mess up my measurements and weights for tomorrow. I might just check my cholesterol while I'm looking at all the rest of the numbers. If I fast for the next 24 hours maybe everything will drop, including excess inches? Not drinking enough water, for sure, I gotta get the sludge out of my system.

If the numbers are still okay then I'll feel relieved and will be psyched to get back OP. If not, then I"ll still be psyched to get back OP so I can make a difference. I guess I want to have a better handle on just what, and how much I can realistically eat. I still struggle with those portion sizes. I'm out of my mind with them - I want my share, I want it now, it's always something. Hmph.

Flylady was lots of fun to see yesterday. I bought her book and stood in line for a long time reading and yapping with others about her, and also about exercise and Curves and listening to others talk about diet. I kept my mouth shut about that since I"ve been so off track recently, but I did pipe in and say lots of good things about Curves. When I got to Flylady she saw the logo on my shirt and asked if I worked for ____ and I said yes, and she took my hand and asked what I did, and when I told her she said "that's a difficult job" and I said "yes, it is". I felt so acknowledged, incredible. I mean, my job is no worse than anyone else's but we have some very confusing laws to deal with, and I was touched that she was aware of it. So DH read most of her book last night and he is starting to "get" how we can tackle our home with the least amount of stress. We are still overeating, though, and we have to address that NOW!!

Tamara, I am so sorry about your accident and I hope you get things worked out soon. It is such a bother and an expense, too. Sigh.

Shirley, you need to feel better soon! Your choices of ailments are not pretty ones. But one hopes they are all temporary and they will clear up soon.

Katie, you should probably check out that Achilles tendon problem sooner than later. Someone in my office has that problem and he has very specific stretches to do several times a day. And he is limited on his exercise, too. He used to run all the time and I think that's where his problem came from, and he had a tendency to overdo. Hopefully you will be able to get this resolved with some sufficient rest and proper stretching? As for that cake, if I liked it I would cut it inot small pieces and wrap them up to freeze for later. If I didn't like it (inconceivable, unless it had hazelnuts) I would give it away or toss it. I have lots of stuff in my freezer, including some of the cupcakes from yesterday. As for today's cupcakes, I plan to freeze them, too, before I explode...

Ann, how about eating the kumquats? I kind of like them fresh. I did can some once a long time ago, and there is still a jar in the cupboard that I often wonder if I should eat or toss out (toss, I know). You might use them in a fresh salsa or chop them over chicken or fish or something, or even chop them into tuna. Hmm, I am intriguing myself here, good thing I don't have any to use up!

Bliss, have a great trip, I am excited for you. I think grouper is not fishy, but quite tasty. Grouper is very popular and pleasant, as I understand.

Mizgh, have fun with the family and the company, that's a wonderful opportunity. I hope Yoga remains fun. DH and I took several classes in years before we moved here. He still talks about it, but at this point we haven't even been walking (due to fog and rain and ice and the effects of a cold) just sleeping whenever we can. So it happens, there are times we are not OP. (I just happen to be pushing the limits)

BSQ thanks for the tip about the camera. I never even thought of taking a photo myself since I hate my pictures (generally) and I don’t want to obsess more than I have been.

((((((Joselle))))) so sorry about the continued pain. Give it time, you do need to give yourself a chance to heal before you begin to think the problem is permanent. Many prayers that your problem will resolve itself soon. Use the resting time to sleep, too. That helps distract me from kitchen activities, anyway.

Stews, you are so nice to work so hard at spreading yourself out among your family, setting aside time for everyone. What a blessing that is. And sleeping in is time for YOU, too.

Dany, welcome back! I’m glad you got to meet Ann and friends, that is very cool. You will feel better after you get some rest and get back on your own schedule.

Em, glad you can get out an walk with Maggie again. That's so refreshing.

I apologise if I missed anyone, I’ve been reading every day but just don’t have time to post to everyone. You are all in my hearts and my prayers. And Xena (just saw your coincident post, welcome back to Curves), Traci, Nel, HWLinda, Sue55, gosh I know I've missed more names and I hate that, but I'm sending big hugs to all of you.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all the nice welcomes. It's good to be here. I've found that since I got the other part of my health issues fixed (hence the hyster), it's time to work on this part, and that means wt loss. I've done it before, so I'll so it again.

Today we started out excited as DH & I planned a cruise, he put in for vacation, and upon looking at the offer from our travel agent discovered a hidden $500 cost we weren't told about.
Needless to day I put a call out but haven't heard back yet. Good think we didn't put our deposit down yet. I'll get it straightened out this week I am sure.

Took DD to the movies and watched Kangaroo Jack. It was cute and she really liked it. Gee it sounds just like Smilie and Buckkie from the other boards. LOL ;-)

Someone asked me yesterday what my modified WW plan is? Well it's nothing more than the fact that I am doing a VERY OLD WW plan - the "Quick Step" and week one and week two are harder for me to do 10 yrs later. I am hungry all the time, so I decided rather than go hungry (set up for snacking), I would eat something healthy to get over the hump. Actually after talking to 2 close friends I have decided to join WW this Wed night. I am going to give the Point System a try. I've been on WW three times over the years - never made it to goal, but close - and have always done well. So what have I got to lose except pounds!! So wish me luck. I really think I need the "accountability" that the meeting will give me. If I pay money and have to be there, I will do it and stay OP easier, that's the way my brain works.

You all have a great week.
Melissa
