should have asked my doc really

Hi

From my own experience, the hysterectomy does not get rid of the cancer. MY doc removed the cancerous tumor that was on my ovary and then removed all particles that he was able to see. I still had to have 6 treatments of chemo (taxol and carboplatin) to get rid of any minute particles that he may have missed.
Good luck tomorrow and hope all goes well.

My Experience

The hysterectomy and some other surgery got rid of much of the cancer, but there was cancer remaining. Thus I too had carbo/taxol and now have had just taxol for recurrence. Your doctor will know what to look for, where to take tissue for testing, etc. Best wishes for successful surgery.

It really depends on your type of cancer and the stage of your cancer. Is a gynecologic oncologist doing your surgery? They really are the experts in female cancers, and would be able to answer any of your questions.

If you have an early stage cancer (very small tumor that has not spread anywhere else) then the surgery might take care of the whole thing and you might not require any additional treatment. Your surgeon will be taking a look around while in there to determine if anything has spread. After the surgery, when all the pathology reports come back, they will be able to determine if you need anything else done.

Good luck! I hope all goes well for you. Remember to take good care of yourself. Get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Come back and let us know how things go!

I missed your post yesterday but wanted to send some 's your way. I hope everything went great today and your surgery was swift and uneventful.

Please let us know how everything went when you can and in the meantime, we'll be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
