Phantom Period After Vaginal Hysterectomy?

I was wondering if anyone else has had a phantom period after your hystectomy? I had a vaginal hysterectomy (kept ovaries) on 1/22/03 for adenmyosis with severe cramping (labor pains) and continual bleeding.

I still have my ovaries and am almost 6 weeks post-op. I experienced an emotional rollercoaster about 2 weeks back (poor DH...he was so supportive!) and had some cramping with it for a few days. Had to take vicodin for the pain! Couldn't stop the crying....I know my ovaries can go into shock and thought maybe that was what it was but I am pretty much back to myself now.

Can anyone tell me what they have experienced and if it eventually will go away all together? Is there a particular place on this website that discusses periods after the fact?

I will see my doc on Friday for my 6 week check-up and hoping for a green light on everything.....feeling wonderful otherwise! Glad it is over!

Hi,

If you kept your ovaries, you will still go through the same PMS symptoms that you did before your surgery, just no period.

I had surgery in May, kept ovaries, and still have PMS. For the first few months after surgery, it was really bad - I couldn't even stand myself! Then for several months it was barely noticable, and I couldn't really tell where in my cycle I was.

The last two months have been rather weird, as my breasts have been swollen and very tender and my sex-drive has been through the roof. I've also been very hungry, just like I always was with PMS, but this has lasted for weeks. It just seems like my hormones have run amuck! (Spring fever?)

I have heard some ladies say that eventually the symptoms will get milder and milder. Let's hope so!

s,

Lisa

Phantom Period After Vaginal Hysterectomy?

I too kept my ovaries. For the first few months when they had started working again I had horrid PMS and such painful breasts. I didn't even want to be around myself either. Feel sorry for my family. Then it started to level out and I had a few months of not even really noticing it at all. But, me too, the last month it's been bad again. We still cycle because we kept our ovaries, just no pain and bleeding. That's a big plus for me ~ and well worth it! I did not cramp at all though, just the mood swings, painful breasts, major grumpiness, altho I do think that is too light of a term for what I was feeling, and I did have mild backache.

Nooooooo!

I thought I would be done with the PMS and swelling boobs. Drat those ovaries. I'm supposed to keep mine.

LOL

Hm, just occurred to me that my hormone driven migraines (which can come once every few months or two-three times a month) won't go away either.

Think I'll go drown my sorrow with a piece of chocolate.
