Questions and concerns

Hi hystersisters,
I am so glad I found this site!! I am having a TAH on Monday (10th), and am quite nervous. It has all happened very fast, the Dr. put an urgent request in for a surgery date and I just found out yesterday that it's this Monday.
They found a mass on my rt. ovary that they feel may be malignant..so they have told me that even though the left ovary may be healthy, they will still take it out as a precaution.
So, although I'm nervous about the operation etc., I find that I seem to be more concerned about surgical menopause (which probably seems ridiculous, considering I may actually have to fight cancer).
Any hints on what to ask the Dr. about HRT, and for those of you who have been through it, what are some things I can expect?

Thanks for listening....I feel like my head is spinning with all the questions I have running around in my mind!!
Thanks,
Cindy

I am awaiting my fate as well.

Hopefully your surgery is being done by a gyn/oncologist. From what I understand from this site and other research, if at all cancer is suspect, a gyn/oncologist should be involved with your surgery as they are trained to handle.

Best of luck to you.

Questions and concerns

If there is a suspicion of cancer you probably will not receive HRT after surgery. So you'll have time to think about your questions and discuss it with your doctor after all the results are in at one of your post-op visits.

If it makes you feel any better, I also had my hysterectomy because of suspected ovarian cancer. In my case both ovaries were covered with tumours. My doctor was positive I had cancer. I never was, but even when my doctor saw the ovaries she thought it was cancer. She did not believe the report on the section and did more extensive surgery than was necessary. The gyn-onc did not make it to the OR until she was nearly done but he told her to stop and she did. She is one of the top gynes in the country. Another reason to have a gyn-onc on board. The fact that my doctor removed my omentum was a problem when it came time for repair of an incisional hernia from the hysterectomy.

Pleased to say I'm doing fine at the moment. Hernia repair was Feb 14.

joselle..

thanks..that does make me feel better!! You know, things have happened so fast, that I haven't had much time to look into things..and one thing I will ask tomorrow at my pre-op physical with my family Dr., is about about a Onc/Gyn...I don't even know if the GYN. doing the surgery is a Onc/Gyn (does that make sense) Now, I will find out and ask if one will be present at the time.
Thanks..invaluable info!!
