ovarian cyst vs peritoneal cyst...or what?

Dear Ladies...

I had a hysterectomy (kept ovaries) & bladder lift, and 2 colon resection surgeries between July 2001 and Jan 2002, and on Sept 13 had a balloon dilation of colon stricture.

Approximately 2 months ago I went for a well exam - 3 cm cyst on left ovary and 7.5 cm cyst on right ovary. Given birth control pills, in 2 weeks they hadn't changed. Doc wanted to do surgery, I wanted to get a 2nd opinion. I ended up in ER a few days later for intense pain in left ovary area - they did ultra sound and left cyst was gone, but right cyst still there. Told me to go see Ob/gyn next week. Ob/gyn who delivered my daughter (8 years ago) did ultra sound a few days later, diagnosed ovarian cycst (still 7.5 cm) and gave me Depoprovera shot. Said that should take care of it. I went back in two weeks, it was still there, altho he said it might be a little smaller. I went back in another 2 weeks, cyst still there and as big as ever, maybe a little larger.

Ob/gyn now says he doesn't think this is an ovarian cyst, maybe a peritoneal cyst due to my previous surgeries. I am going for a very thorough ultra sound at the hospital tomorrow, and then to discuss findings with him following that.

I am considering getting a 2nd opinion from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, as my brother was treated there and I trust them implicitly. Am I overreacting?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Get that Second Opinion

If you have MD Anderson near or there as a resource, I certainly would consider a second opinion especially after that second ultrasound tomorrow if it shows anything of concern. Second opinions are a great idea.

I do not think that we are ever overreacting when it comes to our health. Many times we accept what the doc says because it is what we want to hear. However, when our bodies say that the doc is wrong... it is time for another opinion.
Keep us posted.
