One ovary - One last question!!!

Hi, I am having a TAH/LSO on Wednesday Mar. 12th and I'd really like to hear from those that left one ovary and did well. Both my ovaries are working great right now but I have extensive endo which has stuck the uterus to the recto sigmoid and to the ureters, which is causing serious complications and could be life threatening. The dr says the left will have to go because he needs to move it out to get the endo from the bowel (which may require a bowel resection to do so). The right, if healthy, will be left behind. I am 45 and have very normal and regular periods; I just live with pain almost 3 out of every 4 weeks, which is disabling at times.
I'm hoping the right ovary will keep working and carry me thru until I have a natural menopause.
Please someone out there tell me there is a chance this will happen.....so far I've read that's it very unlikely.
This site has been the very best and all you ladies have been so supportive. I will be back post-op to tell you all how it went, and will miss the daily contact and support that has helped me for the last few months get to where I'm at today.
((((((hugs to all ladies in waiting))))))) I’ll miss ya.
I can’t wait to meet you all again on the other side.

Hi! I had my TAH on 2/6, and was also left w/ one ovary - my right one. I have been podering the same question. I don't really know when my Mom would have gone into menopause, as she had a TAH when she was 36. I'm sure some of the princesses can enlighten us. I kow we're all very diff. in that deptartment. Let's bump this up!

Hugs from Houston,

One ovary - One last question!!!

Hi ladies,

I was an old timer to this site and still come in every once in a while to read the boards and see how everyone is doing.

I had surgery in August of 2001 and kept only one ovary. I am not taking any HRT. I did try some cream for a couple of days, but it gave me migraines. Anyway, I have not had any hot flashes or night sweats so I am thinking my one little buddy is still working pretty good. My doctor did tell me that I would probably go through menopause a bit earlier than someone with both ovaries.

I just wanted to give you girls some encouragement. I know a lot of women's remaining ovary does not function, but I wanted you to hear from someone who's ovary seems to be doing the job.

One ovary - One last question!!!

I'm almost a week post op, but I had one ovary removed 3 years ago and have had no problems with just one. I've kept the remaining one, and though it's early days, no problems so far!! fingers crossed it remains that way

One ovary - One last question!!!

I had a TAH/RSO on 2/10 and of course got rid of the right ovary. The first two weeks after my surgery I was having what I called warm flashes as I would get really warm and was crying over everything. lol But, it wasn't bad. I felt fine... Then one day I felt the ovulation pain kick in (reason I had one ovary removed) and low and behold I haven't had a single warm flash and am back to my same ol' crabby self... I actually liked myself better when the darn thing wasn't working that great.

One ovary - One last question!!!

I have one ovary, no regrets. Do what feels right for you. I am not on hormones and like my doc said - "ain't nothing like the real thing, baby" (that is, if you can).

One ovary

I had a TAH on 1/21/03. Begged the doctor to leave in left ovary if it was healthy. He did not particularly want to do this due to my age - 48 (45 is the cut off line according to the nurse at the palace) He finally agreed and left in healthy left ovary so there was no surgical menopause. I have had no complaints- feel the same as I did before the surgery with regards to meno. Same symtoms. DR said the second ovary will compensate for the lost ovary. So far so good.

One ovary - One last question!!!

Hi:
I had a my Hystie 5 months ago, I was left with one little ovary which was working fine. I have night sweats once in a while, but nothing compared to the ones I had with lupron. Other than that I have had no other side effects.

One ovary - One last question!!!

I was able to keep my left ovary and so far so good. I haven't noticed any difference than when I had two except I dont have the painful ovulation on the right side like before. I was so thankful to keep the one ovary and not have to do HRT. Now at 9 weeks post op and still doing good.

One ovary - One last question!!!

I had my more than half of my right ovary removed 17 years ago. And never had any problems at all hormonely. I am taking right now natural progesterone cream and compounded testosterone. However, none of this was for hot flashes or night sweats. I did have high estrogen levels and the testosterone was low. My Dr. told me that it is normal at my age, 43, having my uterus removed and really had nothing to do with only having one ovary. Up until right before my hysterectomy my hormone levels were very normal. I guess I actually have more than one ovary. I have one and half. lol...Im my opinion, if they are healthy and working fine one is better than none. But that's just how I feel.
