Hysterectomy, kept ovaries, but having all Menopausal symtoms. (Help)

Hi Everyone,
This is my 1st time posting here, because I just found this Forum yesterday. I am 29yrs old and on January 22nd I had a Vaginal Hysterectomy with my ovaries kept. Two days after the surgery I started to have hot flashes, heart palpitations, depression, mood swings, night sweats, & insomnia. My OB said that maybe the blood supply to my ovaries was cut off, so she put me on Premerin temporarily. Once I got to .625 mlg's I started to feel much better. I was also put on Imipramine for my severe depression, and Xanax for the heart palpatations. I finally started to sleep better, my heart palpatations went away, as did my Hot flashes and night sweats. I saw my OB again at my 6 week check up, and she said that in a couple of weeks she wanted me to stop taking the Premerin to see if my ovaries have taken over. So I stopped taking it last week, and Wham, I have all of the symptoms of Menopause again. I feel terrible, can't stop crying, having hot flashes around every 30 minutes, and can't sleep. My question is, is there anyone else out there who has there ovaries, but has or is experiencing menoupause? I have a 4yr old a 3yr old and an 11 month old, and am so messed up that I am having problems being a good mom to them. Thank God my husband is a great help, and I have a Nanny for my daughter, but I just want to feel normal again. Is there any hope? I know that I can start the premerin again, but I would rather try some natural alternatives as I am also a vegetarian. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening to my sob story!

Hysterectomy, kept ovaries, but having all Menopausal symtoms. (Help)

Hi Shelly:
Sorry to hear that you are having problems. I too am new to the site however I am 46 years old had a lavh hyst and kept my ovaries. Thought this was a better choice even though menopause is around the corner. I too have experienced night sweats and insom with some heart palps. My gyno did a salivia test and pre surgery and found that I was estrogen dominate and progestrone deficient. I was having some of menopause symptoms prior to surgery. Just because you are experiencing these symptoms do not assume that you are needing estrogen. Push for a hormone test (blood or silvia) see where you are at. I have learned that the balance is all of your hormones not just one. Hope this helped.

Don't be hard on yourself you will feel better soon. Take time for yourself and remember this too shall pass. The healing process is a long one.

Hi Shell!

Welcome to HysterSisters! I am glad that you found us!

Sometimes the ovaries suffer some shock from the trauma of surgery and need some time to recover. Give your doctor a call and let them know that you are still experiencing hormonal side effects - they should be able to recommend something else to help with the symptoms until your ovaries begin to function normally again.

You may also find it helpful to visit the HysterSister Forums called The Hormone Jungle and No Hormone Desert Oasis for suggestions on relieving your symptoms. Take care.

Hot flashes too!

Hi, I had a TAH on Jan. 20 and kept both ovaries. My hot flashes didn't kick in until 4 weeks later. I am waiting for results of my blood test (FSH). I have been taking Black Cohosh and Soy and that is making them less frequent. I'll let you know what happens with my Dr....

Hysterectomy, kept ovaries, but having all Menopausal symtoms. (Help)

I had my SAH (kept ovaries) 12-17, and started having hot flashes, leg cramps, vaginal dryness and a bunch of other symptoms a few weeks later. I am 38, and only experienced these symptoms previously on Lupron and when post-partum or pregnant.

I had my estradiol tested and it came back pretty low, so I just started Estrace. Getting your levels checked is helpful, though, because it helps the Dr. target where you need to be. Estrogen in BCP has caused another condition I have, chorea, to flare previously, so we'll see how it goes this time -- I am kind-of scared. Let us pray for those ovaries to start working as they used to! Good Luck -- you are not alone!

Hysterectomy, kept ovaries, but having all Menopausal symtoms. (Help)

Hello
I had my TVH last Tuesday and have been totally hormonal(kept both overies) I cry all the time and if I'm not doing that im going off on someone and with a history of depression (on med) this is totally outta control.

So I called DR office today told his nurse and she said she would get back with me well she did and since i can't take the BC pill due to Miagrain's and am on different med he wants me to see my family dr well see it's Friday and I cant even try to get in until Monday and I don't know how much more of this craziness I can take.

Im 32 and thought with leaving my overies in I wouldn't have this problem(WRONG!) and I have seen the post's where they say your overies can fall asleep well i'll agree with that If I can't take hormones what am i suppose to do? Anyone elese with this problem

Best Wishes
Sherry
