Anemia and Thank You......

I just wanted to say thank you, to all of you who go in and share information. I was told yesterday to just go to the pharmacy and get...iron pills. Well I immediatly thought of this site and knew that I had seen previous post on the subject. I went in on the search mode and put in anemia and found all the post that had the different iron meds that you had used. Sharing info on this site means so much......I'm six weeks post op and still find things like this that are very very helpful.

Thank you again......

Anemia and Thank You......

Hi maryellens,
This site is great, isn't it? I think every Gyn should have fliers in their office. I know it's been a Godsend for me and helped tremendously through all this.

I'm anemic too (severely, I'm told) and they put me on Ferrous Sulfate post-op. I just couldn't tolerate it! Gave me bad migraines. I put a post here on the subject, but no one else replied they had experienced that side effect. Pharmacist told me they've not heard of it. (Doesn't surprise me, for some goofy reason when I reached my late 20's I developed allergies and fragrance, foods, etc. can trigger migraines.) I stay away from known triggers, but the Iron threw me. I thought it was the red dye, but then I found an OTC iron (spatone iron+) that is natural, from a natural spring in Wales, UK. The box says it should not cause some of the common side effects of manufactured iron, and low and behold it listed headaches as one side effect. (So at least my body's not too wacky ) Anyway, to make a long story short, the spatone doesn't contain enough iron for me. My family MD put me on Niferex Forte, a different type of iron. It's expensive, but so far it's much more tolerable for me. I've seen other sisters post the same thing, so if you find Ferrous Sulfate gives you problems (consitpation, stomach irritation are some too) you might want to ask for Niferex Forte.

Good luck! -Kathy

Anemia and Thank You......

My gyn. just put me on iron pills yesterday after she found that I was severely anemic two weeks post-op. I'm taking anemagen FA capsules by prescription. It's iron with vitamin C in it to help absorption. My dr. swears it won't constipate me and that it will be gentle on my stomach. I took it early this morning- no headache. She also prescribed prenatal vitamins for me to give everything a boost. Are you terribly fatigued? I am and hate the feeling. Good luck with your recovery...

Anemia and Thank You......

LSN,

I am very fatigued and I am a month in front of you in recovery. Hopefully your doctor got your anemia earlier than mine did. I appreciate the help with which iron to take. On my way to the pharmacy now to get something. I just hope I we all start having some energy soon.
I keep looking at my yard and my house and want to start with the spring cleaning but realize that I don't have the energy right now. Guess it has to wait.

Here's to feeling better soon.
