first chemo / head cold afterwards

HI my mom had her first chemo last Friday the next day she is battling a cold . ANy suggestion o n how to handle it ?

It sounds like your mom was exposed to this cold even before the first chemo. The very first chemo usually doesn't knock out the blood counts too drastically, so hopefully she'll get over her cold with no big problems.
If she runs a temperature definitely let her doc know.

Your mom should've gotten a list of symptoms to watch for and to report to the Dr. If she runs a fever over 100.5 that's a call to the Dr. There are others to look out for. We still get the routine things others get but they can be more scary while we're on chemo. Ellen

thanks i was concerned but she said she is feeling better today. But she still has a cough . My boys came down with it the SAME day she got hers so it must have been in my household


I am so glad i have here to express my concerns.

Oh Patty...

Glad the chemo went well but sad the cold came on. After my first chemo I also was not feeling well for a few days...Not knowing exactly what to expect, I kept blaming it on the chemo. After calling my oncologist constantly, she finally had to tell me that it was not the chemo anymore and probably something else. I went to my regular family doc and had a double ear infection!! He put me on meds, cleared them first with my oncologist, and all was well.

Hope mom gets over the cold real fast. See your doctor if you need to and if she gets fever.

well she got a prescription for the cough she has now ( end of cold thing ) and her levels are 13 doc says she is doing good going for next one on the 28th ( 2nd treatment )
