Polycystic Overies

I had told the doc that I was diagnoised with this before my hysterectomy. He still said that I should have a hysterectomy. He kept my overies in! What sense does this make? Anyone else have this? I am upset because I wanted more children, and I could have taken suppliments instead of having a hysterectomy. I am just beside myself........my depression, and memory loss has gotton worse!

Polycystic Overies

Hi Nunangel,

I never had problems with cystic ovaries, so I have no experience to share. However, I urge you to put together a written list of your concerns and questions to discuss with your Dr. I suggest writing your questions (and the answers you get) because I personally find it very easy to get sidetracked when I'm talking with my Dr. and forget to ask something; if I have my list, I can remember everything that I want to ask.

I'm not sure what your history is with your Dr., but it sounds as if you're now doubting your decision to have your hyst. I hope that you had researched your options prior to having surgery; it seems to me as though Drs., and insurance companies, don't schedule and approve hysts without validation.

Please talk with your Dr. as soon as possible; and be sure to let him/her know about your feelings of depression and memory loss.

Let us know how you are, ok?

Best wishes and s

Polycystic Overies

I'm only guessing that he took the uterus because there was something wrong with it??
Fibroids, endo?? Do you recall what he said?

I also have (have had) polycystic ovaries. In my late 20's, I had lots of problems with cysts.
The older I got, the better my ovaries got, and now I haven't experienced trouble with that for at least six years. ...but then my uterus decided to grow fibroids!

I, too, have kept my ovaries. I, too, have sort of wondered about that, but I figure that my doctor is hoping that the ovaries will continue to function by producing the all-important hormones that we need to carry us up to menopause.

Hopefully your ovaries will work for you, with or without cysts. Hopefully, if you do continue to develop cysts, they will be small enough to "pop" on their own with ovulation.

Do check into the reason you had your uterus removed. Sounds to me like your doctor didn't do a very good job of explaining things to you. And you deserve to know!

I had this

but wonder if this is ovarian syndrome or something different.

When I researched it, they said you have from child hood and my dr. said I would still have the outside problems from it, like hair growth and weight troubles.

I also learned that you are more apt to get some cancers. I asked if they were taking it all and they said yes, and I thought great!

I didn't want any ovary worries, but if you are young they may not have wanted to put you through hormonal troubles.

Polycystic Overies

I have polycystic ovarian sydrome. When I had my TAH on January 7, they took my ovaries and said they had multiple hemorraghic cysts on them.

My understanding is that the ovarian cysts are caused by pituitary and adrenal gland problems, and that those problems may still exist even without the ovaries. However, my doctor said that I had too much estrogen, and now I have a better chance for normal hormone levels with my estrogen patch. Perhaps, she said, having normal levels of estrogen can normalize the other things, sicne the hormones all act on one another.

I am glad my ovaries are gone, b/c teh cysts were bursting and bleeding, and I would still be having pain with them.

hope this helps. Hang in there!
