Back/hip pain-Endometriosis history-Want relief--Hysterectomy???

Please can anyone out there help me with my decision to have a hysterectomy?? I am new to this forum. I have had Endometriosis for 20 years. I am now 43. I understand that a hysterectomy will not cure my Endo. I plan on having an Endo specialist who will try to excise all my Endo. My problem is that I have had hip and back pain for 3 years now and my doctors think that it could be caused by Endometrial growth sitting on my nerves in my back. Has anyone had this problem and has a hysterectomy helped relieve your pain?? I would really appreciate any responses as I am in desperate need of some advice. Thanks!!

Back/hip pain-Endometriosis history-Want relief--Hysterectomy???

I have had hip and lower back pain for years. I tried all sorts of treatments , according to whatever doctor I had seen that week. I kept telling all of them that it had somrthing to do with my cycle and they suggested I go and see a psychologist. The nerve!
Now after all this time, I am getting a hysterectomy on April 1 and I hope it cures whats ailing me. They say there is no garuntee (sp) gbut , right now I can barely function more than 4 days out of the month.

I understand

Hi, I understand your frustration with the difficulty in diagnosing the cause of your pain. I have been having problems with endo for about 3 years now and was diagnosed only last October. However, I have problems with my bowels. I have episodes that involve severe, sudden abdominal pain with forceful diarrhea.

I have had tests on just about everything involving my digestive tract and the only thing they came up with was a bacteria called
c-difficile and a borderline malfunctioning gallbladder. This testing has taken about 5 months, but now I have piece of mind in knowing that I made the best decision to go ahead with this hysterectomy.

I, too, was speptical and confused about making my decision to have this surgery. I wanted to make sure that these episodes weren't related to something else going wrong with my body. The more normal test results I had the more secure I was in my decision about the hysterectomy.

You should see whatever other specialists your ob/gyn wants you to see to eliminate any other possible causes of your problems or you may have a hyst and find that your problems still exist. That would really not be good. Good luck and I hope you can get the answers you are looking for.

P.S. I found that writing my symptoms down in a little calendar, that I keep in my purse, very helpful in determining a pattern. If you can determine a pattern of your symptoms, it will better help your doctor and you to find the cause.

endo pain

I am happy to say that my TAH/BSO (1-31-03) pretty much took care of my back pain, leg pain, etc. At first I thought it had something to do with my period, then they said I had arthritis in my hips, then the funky cycles started, then the ultra sound, then a group of several bc pills. Until I was in pain all the time, the worst back pain ever, it was horrid. It was discovered that I had endo.
I had to wait forever to get disabilty at work, but it was worth it.
I did have to wait 6 weeks afterwards before I went on HRT. That was just as bad, no sleep hot flashes. Had to kill off any endo that was left. I am doing much better, I am able to get some decent sleep and the hot flashes have greatly reduced.
I am still sore, but I can live with that.
I don't have children, I am 44. I questioned my decision while I was suffering through those first 6 weeks but....in the long run I don't feel debiliated by this illness.
This is a wonderful site to explore. Everyone here is just great and you will fing that your questions are answered by many, with different experiances.
Good Luck to You,
Vicki

PJ

I too have endometriosis. I have had it for 11 years and van't handle it any longer. I have tried every other darned treatment with no results. So I am in the same boat as you are and hoping the hyst will really help me out. I have hip pain that radiates down my inner thigh and vaginal walls. My doctors always used to act like I was crazy. But my new doc believes my adhesions have everything so tangled that it is pulling on everything else.I also have back pain that is unbearable and that is a symptom of endometriosis. Lets you and I keep our fingers crossed and our thoughts positive. You are always welcome to email me or send me a private message too. All I can say is good luck and let me know how things go with you. Thank goodness for the Hyster Sisters.

Sincerely
Brandi
