air travel after TAH

I am having to fly to another state to have a hysterectomy with a gyn I trust. While I know the recovery is 6 weeks I want to know if any one has had to travel by airplane after sugery. How many weeks?

I will be staying my mother before and after surgery but I would like to return to my husband and kids ASAP.

I would suggest you call your surgeon and ask him what he suggests. I think it's wonderful that you have this opportunity to see your trusted Dr. He will be able to tell you what he wants you to do. He may want you close until he releases you. Take care and have a great flight!!

Absolutely I will ask him and follow what he says. I haven't had a chance to yet because of all the other medical problems going on right now. I am flying out monday and have surgical consultation on Tuesday. At that time surgery will be schedule for this next week. I was just wondering if anyone had this traveling experiece before and how it turned out.

Thanks

air travel

Hi there! I had a TAH/BSO on Oct. 29. I recovered well with just some tiredness and gas the first couple of weeks, and flew to NJ from Texas on Nov. 14. My incision healed well and I was okayed to walk, exercise and drive at 2 weeks post op. One bad move was lifting my own suit case. I didn't repeat that because I bumped my still sensitive incision site. I didn't drive myself to or from the airport, and I had extra time for slow walking through the airport. It was the only time that I have felt content to relax in my seat and rest. I did get up a couple of times because my bladder was likely to be unreliable if i let it get too full and then sneezed. That's all gone now, 5 months post op. I was really fine as long as I didn't lift or keep going when I got tired. I just took a nap if it was needed. Good luck! Barbara
