Pre-Op Jitters!!!!
Help me!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure if this is just a great big case of pre-op jitters or what but Im seriously considering cancelling my TVH due to happen in 3 days.......I have fibroid tumors that cause me to bleed heavily & often & nothing has helped them to slow down at all......the bleeding is most annoying at times but when Im single, its not such a problem, the problem is when Im seeing someone I can never make love to them if they are squeamish about blood....should I put my body thru all these changes & take the risks involved in this surgery if Im not dating anyone now?.....I keep cleaning & packing & wondering if Im doing the right thing for my body now. If anyone can shed some light on this for me Id appreciate it, if not, thanks for letting me worry outloud. )

Don't cancel
Oh honey,
Don't cancel now if you're having these types of problems. They are not going to get better all by themselves, and you'll end up severely anemic, if you aren't already. That hurts your WHOLE body. You need the oxygen the blood carries for your body--if you are chronically anemic, that's not good at all.
If you have already tried other methods of controlling this, and they haven't worked, hyst is the last option. You may be at this point.
Just think of it this way-- your quality of life will not get better all by itself.
If you are seriously still wanting to cancel, call your doctor and tell him/her so. You can always wait until you feel more sure of your decision.
It IS your decision, it's your life and your body. Just consider all the ramifications of this severe bleeding and weigh that before you make a decision.
And like I said, (this is just my opinion) if you are still unsure, wait until you are more ready for this step. But please, talk to your doctor.
These jitters are normal, trust me! I have them too, My hyst is tomorrow, but I want to be better more than I want to deal with pain and bleeding and growing tumors! I owe it to myself.

Pre-Op Jitters!!!!
Darlin, whether you have a male interest in your life or not should not keep you from the surgery. A lady I work for, my age 46-ish, put off for years her surgery. She had a terrible heavy period pretty much nonstop. Suffered horribly. She finally had her surgery a week before Christmas, and she swears it is THE best thing she ever did.
I had no abnormal periods, no severe pain, but had a large fibroid pushing up against my bladder. As well as 6 more smaller fibroids. Always the pressure. That was enough for me to do surgery. Now there is no pressure. Finally I have a life without having to run to the bathroom every 20-30 minutes to pee. Not to mention sleeping an entire night without having to get up.
We all have jitters and doubts. But hands down most women do not regret the decision one bit. I'm one of them.
Hugs,
Littlebear

those darn pre-op jitters
I am also a lady in waiting for my TAH/BSO for April 8th, and have firboids, endo, way to long periods & heavy bleeding. I personally can't wait to have my hyster but have been stewing about it for a long time now so when I finally made my decision it was like "ok book me tomorrow" & unfortunately have had to wait over a month! So this game me lots of time to think about it more and wonder if i was doing the right thing. But, everytime I think about it wham another pain hits me and its like yikes take it out now
In the beginning my DH was not very supportive & thought I shouldn't have it done "to drastic" he says, well once I took him to my Dr. and we all sat down & discussed what I had and my other choices he quickly changed his mind and has been all for it now. Like my Dr. said my body has gotten to the point that I can either live like I am with the pain, bleeding (14 days a mo) and all around craziness or I can jump on the train and get this done. Yes I had other options like hysteroscopies, laps, lupron, etc, but as my dr told me all this does is delay the final outcome and I felt why delay it just get it done.
So all I can say to you sweetie is if your really feeling a lot of doubts sit down with your Dr. and look at everything you have going on in your body, get all the facts, see what other options if any are available to determine if you want the final outcome of want the delay factor and sit down with a friend or family member that you can get advice from I know that really helps. Then based on all the above decide for yourself what it is you really want to do, nobody can force you into this, it needs to be your decision and you need to feel comfortable with that decision.
As for me, I hope to see you on the other side and become a princess with you! Good luck with your decision and let us know how you do

Pre-Op Jitters!!!!
I agree with the other wise posters on this thread.
I'd just add one thing....IF your doctor recommends this procedure to increase your quality of life, do this for YOU, nor for, (or occasionally, I suppose, in spite of.... ) the love interest in your life.
You may find that an increased quality of life means that YOU are more lovable to yourself. And, it's when we're lovable to ourselves that we're the most lovable and attractive to others.
Just my humble opinion.
Cheers, Melissa

Hi from another Tennessee sister!
I had multiple fibroids and had a TAH in May of last year. Best thing I ever did for myself.
No, it wasn't easy, but I got through it and now, 10+ months later, I can honestly say that it was well worth everything I went through.
The problem with fibroids is that, while you may be able to live with the symptoms now, that may not always be the case. Mine were diagnosed in 1998 and really weren't giving me too much trouble until the beginning of last year, when I started having periods that went on for months and almost bled to death. I then became severely anemic, ended up in the hospital with complications, one of the fibroids twisted around on it's stalk and died and caused severe pain and I spent the last two weeks before surgery on Darvocet.
Only you can decided what you should do. But don't let fear prevent you from getting the medical care you need. The waiting is the worst part of this surgery. If you can just get through the next three days, you'll be on the "better" side looking back.
Best wishes and s,
Lisa

Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Thanks to all of you who have replied, your opinions helped me more than you know. Thank you for taking the time to give me some direction. Seems the consensus is that I will be grateful I didnt cancel. I am very tired (both literally & figuratively) of almost bleeding to death each month. I have decided to go through with the surgery & trust everyone that the hardest part is the waiting.
Really scared still, but really ready to become a punctured princess.
I knew this website would be a tremendous help to me & I love it!!!!
Thanks again to all of you!!!! :O)
