Biopsy everything?

Hi ladies,
I am scheduled for TAH on June 2nd--haven't asked yet about what else should be done--(have a major list of questions going for Dr.) I have posted on cancer concerns before as I lost my mother to uterine cancer in Feb. of 2002 after her hysterectomy in Nov. of 2001 for a growing fibroid (she was 66).

Naturally, when my dr. recommended a hyst for my fibroid, I freaked!! I have since seen an oncologist (actually the one who saw my Mom--thought he would understand my anxiety and had easy access to Mom's records, etc.) He had another US done--no change from previous ones with my Gyn. He also did a endrometrial biopsy (ouch!)--benign.

My question--now that I have scheduled--is it prudent to have my Gyn do it?? Is it possible to have everything within reach biopsied while he is in there? Should I have the oncologist look over any path reports? What are some precautions you all would recommend?

(Mom's Dr. "found a few cells" "sure we got them all--they were all inside uterus"--8 weeks later--CAT scan show cancer everywhere) So you can understand my concern!!

Thank you for your opinions and answers.

Biopsy everything?

Hey there,

I am sure your anxiety level is through the roof. Try not to let it take over. You have taken ALL the right steps, going to an oncologist for second opinion ,etc.
What does your Mom's Oncologist recommend? Sometimes your Gyn and Onc will do the surgery together. They automatically send your uterus/fibroid off for pathology. That will be thoroughly checked. Will you have your ovaries removed?
I too had a TAH, and they found a fibroid that was in the smooth muscle, myometrium, of my uterus. It was not found on biopsy or D&C because it was hidden in the muscle. It truly was a fortuitous find, and as you so aptly put it, "Was in God's hands".
Do what your heart, your Dr.s and intuition tell you to do.

Biopsy everything?

It's always good to be safe. I would have a gyn oncologist read your pathology reports. I had all of my reports read by two different pathologists. They always came back different!!

Biopsy everything?

Yikes....It is always better to be safe than sorry. Will your oncologist gynocologist do your surgery??? If so, I would definately let him do it. They know exactly what to look for and how to remove it..

Good luck to you..
