Minus my uterus and ovaries, do I need HRT?

I had surgery in September and tried the Vivelle patch for a couple of months but am now using nothing. Didn't notice much with the patch, so I stopped it in a desire to cleanse my body.
In the two years before surgery I had trouble with major depression, 30lb weight gain, concentration and memory loss, thinning hair and skin. Currently I have started hot flashes and some insomnia. I am still carrying the extra weight and haven't noticed any new changes in skin or hair. Without ovaries, do I need to have my hormone levels checked before I start any HRT? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Like any medication, HRT is not "right" for every woman. You should probably go back to your doc and ask him/her what s/he would advise.

Vivelle is a great product for estrogen replacement. It is bio-identical and delivered transdermally. Some women who are heavier find that they do well (or better) on a fairly low dose. For women who feel they need some estrogen but wish to minimize their risks of the medication.

If you chose not to use estrogen, most women find their symptoms become less over time - time can be weeks for some of us, and months for others.

Good luck researching your options.
