Natural Hormones

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the infor you guys post. So....helpful. Question. I am thinking of trying natural hrt. Now on Estrace.5. Would like any info you can give. How did it work. Was it better for you. Did it work as well as Syn.hrt. better or worse? Side effects? etc.
I think that covers it. Any info would be appreciated. I see new doc in May to talk about it
Thanks,

Jackie

Natural Hormones

Hi, Jackie!

Are you considering a change because what you're using now isn't working, or do you just want to use something that is more natural?

I changed from Estratest HS to compounds because the Estratest wasn't working for me. My first compound prescriptions didn't work out, either, but after getting blood test levels and update of the symptoms I was having, another attempt was made and so far so good! The estrogen I take is in a capsule form. The other three are in a cream base. I have progesterone, testosterone, and an estriol/testosterone vaginal cream for dryness issues. The combination has made a world of difference for me. It takes working closely with the pharmacist and doctor but it works for me so that's what I will continue to do.

I don't know of any side effects. It does take more time and effort to keep track of dosing/timing, and time for the cream to absorb before dressing. Much easier to pop a pill daily, but if the pill doesn't do the job, what's the sense in that?!

My compounds this last time were $119. I'm using the smallest amount of testosterone - half of what I can use because my doctor wrote it with a range of daily use. So, it should last 2 months instead of one. The other compounds are a 30 day supply. My insurance paid for the progesterone and estrogen before, and I have no doubt it will continue to be covered. I haven't heard back yet on the other two. I have to pay at the pharmacy and be reimbursed.

Hope this information helps you decide what you want to do. Good luck with your choices!

Natural Hormones

Jackie,
I've never tried the synthetics. I was put on the Climara right after surgery and than went on the Compounded hormones and never looked back. I did have to try a few different forms and do some tinkering of the doses. I've been very pleased with the bio-identical hrts.
