Ready to go.......

I am in my 4th week of recovery, Fri will be 5wks. I started back to work after my 2wk release to drive, but part time for a couple of days & then went full time on the 3rd week & I have been doing great. I have my ups & downs....but I have been out with friends & out dancing as well. My question is that I really want to get right back into my soccer, I was playing on 3 leagues & I am so tired of not doing anything & just gaining weight. How soon can I get back into working out & playing soccer again once I am fully released, which I hope will be next week on the 17th? I was very active before my surgery, played a game the night before my surgery. I know that everyone heals differently, but my doctor kinda figured I would heal up fast.....but, I don't want to hurt myself either. Any experienced input appreciated?

Hey Greeneyes...

I posted this some place else but in case you didn't see it, I am four weeks post-op and had my check up yesterday. I specifically asked my doctor about swinging a golf club and the risk of injury along the incision line (bikini cut) and he said "You can swing a golf club.... don't start off swinging 100 times a day (on a bad day that's only 9 holes ! ), just work up to it. But you can do anything you did before, just pay attention to your body and ease back into it" Not that we are all the same by any means but you sound like you're doing well, as am I and so there you have it! Good luck and enjoy.

Fast recovery

I was also lucky and recovered quickly, returning to work at the same schedule. I was also antsy to return to my previous activities. I skate skied the day before my surgery.

My MD released me for ALL normal activities at 4 weeks, including downhill skiing. BTW, my incision was vertical and about 5.5 inches in length. I had already started doing ab work, step, and spinning, and I had been out on my road bike. I had some bladder soreness that kept me from doing big jumps and from running. My biggest concerns with returning to skiing were falling and jerky movements - probably also a concern for you. But I was able ski all day in deep powder for 2 days at 5.5 weeks out. My tummy felt fine, but my legs were very tired afterwards!! I skied again last weekend, which was 2 weeks later and I felt like myself.

I found it really helpful to just keep building up physical activity. Things that didn't feel right one week sometimes felt fine the next time I tried them.

Congratulations on your progress.

visits at 4 instead of 6?

Thank you for the responses......I feel more comfortable about my decisions. I am kinda curious why some return at 4wk instead of 6wks if it's a tah, & I understand if it's a vh.....but if you have an incision? BTW, my incision is vertical & I had my appendix removed as well as vag wall build up. I was going to try & make soccer practice tonight & go into it real easy to see how I feel before I play my first game. Thanks again for your input.

down side:Greeneyes

Hey Greeneyes... good luck tonight and just take it easy... I did have an sah (left ovaries in) and have a bikini cut about 5 inches wide, directly over the same incision I had from a myomectomy about eight years ago... it has healed up really well and I don't know why I was released for everything at four weeks, but I trust my doc... the down side is while I don't have to return to work for a few weeks, I can no longer pawn off the laundry if I'm seen swinging the golf club... it's a trade off

Ready to go.......

So you were cleared to swing the club at four weeks? I had my 2 week post op yesterday, and she cleared me to "listen to my body" and refrain from lifting until four weeks, but then doesn't need to/want to see me again until my annual unless I have a problem. I've been trying to determine when, then, I can swing the clubs and go back to Curves?! I'm guessing at 4 weeks, being I'm careful....

May need to call, just to verify.... but then I, too, would get the laundry back.

Hello Shortlegs

Yup... he said go on ahead.. you can see a transcript of my conversation with him under the post "ready to go" I took some easy practice swings today and feel fine and will just increase the number of swings (the weather here is not nice enough to actually go out there) and work my way back into it. I'd call and ask to be sure... but that's what my doc told me. Also finished two loads of laundry... and felt fine too (sigh of resignation)

feeling pretty good

Just an update from last night. I did go to soccer practice last night & did rather well. Didn't do any scrimmage but several running drills & kicked the ball & took shots on goal. I was a little sore afterwards, but bareable & today I feel just as great. I plan to play one of my Coed soccer games on Sunday, but will take it easy, of course. But thank you all for your support......I am feeling better every day that passes. Just looking forward to the sex now.....hehe. Thanks again ladies!!!

Glad to hear it went well

I thought about your post as I cycled past soccer fields on my bike ride last night . It feels so good to be healthy. Congrats on your progress!!!!

PS- If you can play soccer, can't you have sex?!

I wish. :-(

I had some posterior work done to build my vaginal wall, so I was told that it was a definite no no for sex until I go for my 6wk checkup & he gives me full clearance. I have been too scared to try anything, but it has been hard. He said it will be like I was 16 again......something like being a virgin again.....hehe. How great is that!!! Oh, btw....the soccer I played last night was my women's indoor team, not sure I am ready to play on my outdoor team yet.....but I told them by this summer I will play outdoor. I am going to play coed indoor on Sunday, or at least try. Thanks again for the input.....it made me feel better to know, that I am okay & can do this.
