Surgery One Year Ago - Just had to stop HRT

My doctor took me off HRT 2 months ago. I've have high tryglycerides for 3 or 4 years now. So far they have had no luck controling it.

I was on gemfibrocil (or something like that) for 3 years but my tryglyceride levels never went down like the DR wanted.

I have a new DR now. She put me on TRICOR to see if that would make a differecen. It didn't, but it did damage my liver. So now i'm not taking anything for the TRIG.

She told me to stop taking my Premarin because she said sometimes that causes your Triglycerides to be elevated.

Now I have hot flashes day and night. But I can't take lots of stuff because my liver is still out of wack.

Just went to my OB/GYN this week and told him. He said to find out if stopping the HRT has helped. If not, he said he would put me back on it.

In the meantime, it's 1:30 & I can't sleep.

Between this and my 17yo DS, my life is falling apart. Thought his troubles would cause me to have a stroke or a heartattack. The bad part is that I don't care anymore.

Surgery One Year Ago - Just had to stop HRT

Hi sweetie I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable! Have you considered trying to use a patch or cream form of estrogen? Those won't go through your liver first so they wouldn't be likely to cause the problems that Premarin can for your liver. Many ladies here do very well on the Vivelle dot patch... if your DR lets you go back on estrogen, maybe you could ask him if he has some samples of it that you could try?

Please don't give up, there's got to be some way you can feel better.

I have the high triglyceride problem too. My levels did not change while I was on the patch... but when I switched to oral estradiol the already high levels just about doubled.

One doctor wanted to poke statin drugs down me to lower the triglycerides, but I had taken them before and couldnt stand the side effects.

I have changed doctors now, and the new one says... "you inherited those high triglycerides, and the statin drugs are worse for your body than having the high triglyceride levels".

We deciced I need to exercise, eat healthily, use sublingual hormone delivery and not worry now about the triglycerides. It's a no win situation with them anyway, so I might as well feel as good as possible now and hope I stay healthy. I mean, if the statin drugs didn't exist, what would you do for it anyway???????

Even the old folks in my family had high levels, and they all lived into their eighties....... Of course, you have to do what is best for you, on the advice of a doctor you trust. Good luck!
