I'm a new Hyster Sister!

Hello everyone! I'm Robin & I am new to this wonderful group!
I had my TAH/BSO on 4/8/03 Had it all removed!!! Although it was not a bowl of cherries as I make it seem as I'm sure those of you who have already had the surgery already know! I started with the usual excessive bleeding & my Dr. had me go to the hospital to have an ultra-sound done because my pap came back abnormal & cervix had grandular cells..it was abnormal all the way around. Anyway the ultra-sound showed a very larger uterus FULL of fybroid tumors & I had the colposcopy & biopsies done & chose to have the hysterectomy & I told him I wanted it all removed. Well I went in on the morning of the 8th & went through all the pre-op & then to the pre-op waiting room where Dr. Carter "The Anethesiologist" came in & gave me something to take the edge off is what he said..After that I don't remember a thing until 3 or more hours later. My Dr. was right there when I woke up..He said he was so happy to see me open my eyes.. He said I was one of the hardest surgeries he has ever done..I siad why? He said Robin your surgery took 3 hours because your bowel & bladder had adhered into your uterus & he got the bowel off with no problem but my bladder got a 2cm cut "nick" & the urologist came in & fixed my bladder. After that my uterus had to be cut in half & removed in two very huge pieces & I lost lot's of blood. In which I had to have a tranfusion & I can't remember much about that except I was given 4 pints of blood & 1 pint of plasma & my heart could not handle it & I was rushed to ICU & went into cardiac arrest. They put a heart monitor on me & I found out I also have sleep apnea. There is lot's more but I do not want to take up the whole message board..I am at week 2 & 1 day of post-op recovery & it has been very hard & I found out I could not do a thing..I wish I would have found this site before my surgery..my sister had one a few months before mine & she gave me warning..but being the typical little sister i did not fully believe her..I sure do now.. I had great shortness of breath before & after my surgery ..so my OB/GYN has been trying to get me into a cardilogist..I went to an internal med. Dr. he said my x-rays from the hospital..he was the Dr. who took care of me in ICU..amyway he said my x-rays showed my lungs to be clear..free from the fluid that quickly filled them following my transfusion & he listened to my heart & said it sounded great & he also did the pulse oxygen..well my ob/gyn was not happy & has set up another appt...a second opinon..I know I mis-spelled that. Anyway ..I said I would stop. I plan on making a webpage re-counting everything I remember..needless to say..I'll never forget it..I ordered the hyster Sister Book Set & Plan on writing everything down in the HysterSister Journal! I am also a crown jewel!!! I am so excited about being a member of this awesome group!!!!!! God Bless ~Robin

(((Robin)))

I am so glad you are here- and well enough to post!!
Wow- This site has been such a wonderful blessing in my life. I found it a few weeks before my TAH, and found it to be a wealth of information- and the ladies in chat and on the boards helped keep my sanity.

God bless you as you recover! I hope everyday you improve and feel better!!

Thankyou for the welcome! I am surprised I set up long enough to write all of that LOL! But I have been doing my best to get alot of rest.. I will get up from here soon & get back into bed..I had my 2 week follow-up at the Dr. today..I went in to him last week to have my catheter removed, which I had in for 8 days.. I was ever so happy to get that out! I think I will surf around the site some more! Thank-you for taking the time to reply!

Robin, I too want to welcome you to Hyster Sisters. I'm glad that you've found us, even though it wasn't before your surgery. I hope we can help you out with the many questions your sure to have as your progress through your recovery. Robin--
What an ordeal you've been through! I'm glad you found this site, too. I found it about a week after my surgery, but wish I knew about it before. I hope your recovery goes well. Take care, and try not to do too much!
