Blister burst

<Gross-out warning!>

I have developed a huge "blister" just above my incision. (I'm 12 days post-op.) I noticed it last night. The skin over the blister is translucent and I can see the fluid inside! It's at least the size of a tablespoon, if not two. I had been contemplating whether to do anything about it (prick it to let the puss out?) but decided that the smart thing was to leave it alone.

This morning I took my shower, patted the area dry, and put on underwear. A moment later, at the very same instant, both my blister burst and my ceiling in the hallway fell! (Cracked and sagging plaster which repairmen had supposed wasn't ever likely to fall.) Strange coincidence!!! The fluid from the burst blister soaked the front of my panties --and left a little puddle on my wooden floor!

For now all I've done for the burst blister is to dab it dry.

I had been wondering where all the fluid inside the "swelly belly" was going to GO. Erupting in a blister is one way I had never considered. Does anyone know where else it goes when it moves around? My abdomen has been very swollen and NUMB. (Is the numbness normal?) And just yesterday VERY sore on the surface (ouch! it hurts to touch the skin near my belly button!) I don't know what to make of it.

Is this blister an "edema", an "abcess"? The blister itself didn't hurt; it was just a collection of clear fluid. No blood; not sore or itchy. I've never had an allergic reaction to adhesives, so I doubt it had to do with the Steri-Strips (still have them on).
(As it's Sunday, I won't be calling my Dr.)

Anyone else have a similar eruption?

(I just did a search on the word "blister" and found a thread of others reporting this. Other than that, I hadn't seen anything along this line in all of my extensive reading on this site.)

They didn't put a heating pad on you did they??? I have huge blisters all across my tummy above my huge incision....I had a heating pad on mine for 5 hours...very hot...although I couldn't feel much...it gave me 1st and 2nd degree burns. I kept letting them pop on their own and they kept filling up. I finally had to go back to ER and they had to cut away all the skin and dress it with silver sulfadiazine cream. Then cover with dressings that have to be changed 2 x a day. I know this wasn't due to tape...MINE definately are burns. Hope you feel better. Ask doc for some of this cream...it will help.

Hi Vicki!

Even though it is Sunday I think you should call the doctor. There is always a doctor on call. You need to be very careful of infection and the doctor is the best one to advise you on what needs to be done. Take care.

Hi Vicki I agree with (((LynnMaryVL))), please give your DR a call.... there should be an 'on-call' DR even on the weekend who can return your call.

I have a hunch... try doing a search here on 'seroma' and see what you come up with and whether it sounds like your 'blister'.

Let us know what the DR says, OK?
