Hair and testosterone

I am interested in trying out testosterone for my libido but I am a hairy person to begin with. Is it possible that by taking things like pregnenolone or testosterone I will cause more hair growth?

Has anyone had this experience?

Hi Pla !

I began using a low dose testosterone creme (.5%) about 6 weeks ago. I feel like a new person. The fatigue has left, and I actually think about sex (which has not happened since surgery)
I am, however, light haired and was worried about getting too much of a good thing, and getting hairy ! I am happy to report that has not happened, nor any of the other negative symptoms.
I credit this with a low dose, and a small amount applied (like 1/8 teaspoon). It took awhile to take effect, but now that it has, I'm very pleased with the results.. I am also on the patch .1mg/daily
dose. Good luck to you !!! Becky

testosterone and hair growth

Yes the testosterone may cause hair growth, but there are a few alternatives so it won't become a problem, you may use a topical low dose gel and use it behind the knees this way any hair that may grow will be shaved off while doing the legs, also a thick gel applied to the vulva area is very good, won't see any hair. A sub lingual tablet may also be used and if any hair growth occurs you can use the cream or gel. Thanks Kristi

Hair and testosterone

Hi Pla My experience has been very much like (((Becky's))). I have been using a 1% compounded natural testosterone gel applied to the vulva for about eight months now, and have had zero extra hairs appear, nor have I had any other side effects of too much testosterone. My energy level is great, the brain is much less than without it and my libido returned to normal a couple of weeks after I started using it.

I think the trick is to use only a small amount, and use it as directed, under a DR's supervision. Also, make sure your serum level of free testosterone is actually low before trying it, because if your level is already high enough, adding more will not bring back your libido and is likely to cause those nasty side effects. Transdermal natural testosterone (such as the compounded creams and gels) are far less likely to cause side effects than synthetics (like the injectables and the methyltestosterone in Estratest).

Another consideration is what your lipid profile is like. Testosterone can raise LDL and lower HDL in some women, so many DRs won't prescribe it to ladies with cholesterol issues, and even those of us with great lipid #s are (or at least we should be) monitored regularly for any changes.

Have you got a compounding pharmacist that works with your DR there? If you need to find one, perhaps this link will help:

It has two links to compounding pharmacies doing business in Australia.

I hope this helps... if you do try it, let us know how it goes, OK?

Hair and testosterone

Thanks

It seems from Kristi's post that the testosterone can cause hair growth in the actual area that it is topically applied to?????

I thought that it was the general increase in the system that caused hair growth and that this could be anywhere?? Facial/upper legs or chest area?

Any thoughts on this?

Hair and testosterone

(((Pla))), I've heard it both ways... either you could get it where it's applied, or you could get it in the 'male' places (face, chest, etc.). But from ladies on a low dose of cream or gel I have not heard reports of this happening... it seems to happen more to ladies on Estratest or other synthetics, or higher doses. That's why some DRs don't want to prescribe the creams... they see a high potential for abuse by ladies who think that if a little bit is good, more would be better. In the case of testosterone that would be a recipe for disaster .

(((Rosezella))), any side effects you might experience from oral natural testosterone would be because it passes through your liver first... the same deal with ladies on oral estradiol versus a patch or cream. You may see more potential for cholesterol trouble as you use it over a longer time period but I doubt the risk for extra hair growth is any greater than for the creams.

I haven't taken the oral compounded testosterone... but with the creams, I experienced an increase in energy within the first three days, and that seems to be the norm here. I'm wondering though, since yours is mixed with progesterone (which has a tendency to 'calm') if maybe the progesterone is undoing the energy boosting effects of the testosterone?

Hair and testosterone

I have been on the oral form and because women are only prescribed the very lowest dose (at least where I live) it is near impossible to gain any of the side effects that a man taking it would get. I certainly didn't see any of it. A higher dose is needed to get the hair thing or muscle bulk. What I was advised anyway.

one more question ?

thank you for the reply,
but I have another question, would a lower dose os progesterone, prehaps give me more energy? I take my pill at night, and its all I can do to wake up in the morning. my doctor is no help because she doesn't know anything about compounding.
any advice would be helpful,I'm due for a refill soon.

Since you're due for a refill, I'd go ask the compounding pharmacist... they can be very helpful in situations like this.

JMHO, but I would try to get the estrogen, testosterone and progesterone separately so you can tweak each one independently. Oral progesterone is very short-acting in the body, so I'd take that at bedtime... the others you could take in the morning. And if you're that sleepy, I'd lower the dose of progesterone. When I briefly used oral compounded progesterone, 50mg a day was plenty (in fact too much) for me, but we are all different! Listen to your body.

In case you haven't seen it, here is a link to a list of symptoms of too much/too little estrogen/progesterone:

too much/too little

and here's a list of symptoms of too much/too little testosterone:

ABUNDANCE OF TESTOSTERONE:

oily skin
acne
facial hair
deepening voice
feelings of anger and aggression
male pattern baldness
clitoral enlargement

DEFICIENCY IN TESTOSTERONE:

vaginal dryness
urinary incontinence
dry skin
brittle hair
decreased sexual desire
reduced energy and sense of well-being
insensitivity to clitoral stimulation
insensitivity to nipple stimulation
decreased arousability overall
lower capacity for orgasm
thinning of pubic hair (for some women)

I hope this info helps... but please try talking with your pharmacist. Sometimes they will also talk with your DR for you, that can help a lot too.
