Another (same/constant) UTI
Well,
When I went to my internest on Friday for the RLS. I decided to stop by urology and pick up a lab slip for a urinalysis because I had a "feeling", and to drop off some candy for the techs and a thank you note to the uro dept. They have been great. I seem to call them EVERY Monday morning!
To my NOT SUCH a surprise my urolgist called me this morning (before I could call him) and have a "different bug" and require another round of Cipro. This stuff gives me a yeast infection so I hope to get Diflucan at the same time at $10.00 a pill.
This is getting expensive although I'm supposed to be reimbursed for this "complication" for copayments and RX's and out of pocket expenses like gloves, alcohol swabs, diapers, etc.
So....my question is, Will this be something I'm going to deal with for the rest of my peeing life. Bladder problems? I fear the answer is yes and this constant backache and fatigue will be something I'm going to have to live with. I always tell myself it could be worse AND I sure know it can. D*mn my fistula may return and require another surgery. I feel as though I'm living in constant fear that I have a black cloud over me and something else is going to go wrong. I have to go on though....I just shampoo'd my carpet and now belly is swollen and hurting....I guess it's time to go pick up my scripts and rest.

Another (same/constant) UTI
(((Renee))) I'm sorry to hear about this latest UTI. I sure understand about how these types of infections (and the yeast infections they alternate with) seem to keep recurring... it's frustrating and expensive!
You've probably already thought of these things, but are you drinking lots of cranberry juice or taking cranberry capsules (makes the inside of the bladder slippery so it's harder for bacteria to 'stick' there), and eating yogurt with live active cultures or taking a probiotic? Those things can help a lot... one of the reasons for these constant infections is that you undoubtedly had to take so many antibiotics at the time of your surgery that it really messes up your intestinal and vaginal 'flora'. It can take a very long time to get back in balance.
Now, sweetie, you know that shampooing the carpet is a definite ... so off to the recliner for you to , OK?
 s,
-Linda

Another (same/constant) UTI
Hi Renee,
Can you ask your uro for samples? I know when I go to the urologist he has always given me my bladder meds & made sure I always have a Diflucan in case of yeast infections. I am glad because I did get a yeast infection when I had the urethral cath. I am pretty sure they were sales samples but they work just the same. I just got back from the family practioners office because I was freaking out this morning. Said it was a panic attack & my blood pressure was a little high so now I get a new med for anxiety.
Good Luck,
Terry

Terry,
I'm on 40mgs of Prozac for depression. Are they giving you Paxil for aniexty?
I swear the meds I'm on is scary. I spoke to my uro today and if I don't feel better by tomorrow I'll go in for another check. I have a constant backache (lower) and almost feels like ovulation pain. I do still have my right ovary. AND I'm peeing like every hour. Can't get a lot of sleep.
We sure are a mess this group. BUT hey....it could be worse right.

Another (same/constant) UTI
Hi Renee,
I also worry that this will be a lifetime problem even though they say not necessarily. I am lucky that I haven't had a UTI yet! I am taking Lorazepam for anxiety. It is already starting to build up in my body. I am starting to feel spaced out & even more tired. I didn't take one this morning because I wanted to do some painting. I took one when dh got home from work & we slept for a couple of hours. When I got up I still felt groggy & was outside talking to my neighbor when the middle school up the street let out. I stood there for a while before I realized I was in my nightgown & had paint all over me. I thought I was getting some strange stares. I am going to have to be more careful this is some powerful stuff.
Good Luck with the Cipro, I didn't like that too well gave me dry mouth.

Another (same/constant) UTI
Hi,
Did you know using vaginal estrogen can keep UTI's away? I had a never ending problem with my bladder and the way it was solved was my taking Macrodantin for six weeks. Then on to the vaginal estrogen. Macrodantin is a bladder anti-biotic and not a broad sprectrum, you will find it safer than the Cipro. I took so many broad sprectrum anti-biotics for my bladder infections I ended up with clostridium difficile. That is when all you good bacteria is wiped out by anti-biotics and a nasty bug lurking in your intestines takes over. You get quite ill from it. You then need to take another anti-biotic (Flagyl) to get rid of the damage the previous anti-biotic caused. You might find it worthwhile to have a talk to your Doctor about it. It does work, and hopefully it will get you off the non stop merry-go-round you have found yourself on.
