worried about poss. cervical cancer
I have never had an abnormal pap in my life and I am thiry years old and faithful in my yearly checks. In March of 99, I was 5 weeks pregnant with my baby when the usual pap was performed. It wasn't until 5 months later at my 6th month check up, that I was informed that the pap had returned showing inflamation and benign cellular changes? I was furious at not being told and the pap was repeated. This one returned severe inflamation that obstructed the slide from being veiwd properly. My gyno wrote it off to pregnancy and refused to retest me or anything else until after the birth. I changed doctors pronto. Anyway, the new ob did some other test and found bacteria infection and treated me, then at six weeks post pardom pap returned atypia squamos cells undefined sygnificance?? ASCUS. Biopsy was done, returned atypia lesion. Freezing of cervix was done and now three months later slight spotting after sex. The docor repeats pap it returns nomal, I bleed for days after exam. While in the office he determines that my uterous and bladder have fallen and says my problem was cervicitis. He wants to do a TVH is 6 days. I am scared to death that he will find cancer. I have four kids and I am having nightmares about this. Please someone tell me what your cervical cancer symptoms may have been, my doc says that he is not concerned about that, that my paps were not indictive of cancer. I would love some feed back. thanks P.R.

worried about poss. cervical cancer
I know it is hard, but please take my advice and try to calm yourself down! I have heard that a tvh would be performed for a falling uterus. Plus your tests only showed an inflammation of the cervix, and the dr did say that they did not show cancer! I was diagnosed with carcinoma in situ, cervical cancer and I had absolutely no symptoms. I only found out due to a routine pap. After that I had a biopsy and then surgery. There was no question at all to my test results!! I had cancer and it had to come out, of course! So that is what I did. I know how frightening the thought of cancer is, but you need to have more faith in your doctor. After surgery, if he says that he was shocked, and it was cancer then just be glad that it is gone! For now though, you really need to talk to your doc and let him explain your tests and why he feels as though cancer is not an issue. It sounds like you won't relax until you understand and you have every right to have your results explained to you in detail!! Please don't drive yourself crazy and instead pick up the phone and call your doctor!!!

I agree with Cyd, please call your doc, so he can put your mind at ease.
I like Cyd had carcinoma in situ, there was no doubt after my biopsy that is was cancer, I had no symptoms whatsoever, ask your doc to explain exactly to you what is happening, a hyst is done for so many reasons not only cancer, my thoughts are with you.
Please call your doc.
Sending you all the luck of the Irish.
Loves ya

Thankyou
I went for my pre op this afternoon and I do need to call my doctor first thing in the morning. A nurse mentioned the fact that no ultrasound had been performed to rule out fibroids and that it might be smart to look at that as well. I thank you so much for your time. This site is great. I am young to be having this done and my friends are about my age and not going through any of this yet, so I am kind of on my own, its not like when your pregnant and so are your friends or your usual life experiences that you kind of go through together, I thank God I found this, he answered a prayer

worried about poss. cervical cancer
Hi, just thought I would send a note of encouragement. I went through a very similar experience 10 yrs ago now. I had cervical dysplasia that was finally corraled with a cervical cone biopsy. I have had no bad paps since and the only long lasting effect that I'm aware of is chronic cervicitis and a fragile cervix. I really don't think that any of my current problems are related. I hope you will find your answers.

Sounds like everyone has given you good advice here...though we all also know how hard it is to bring down the stress-level preop! I also had carcinoma-in-situ, w/no symptoms at all. No bleeding, no pain...nothing! I think it is wise to have the ultrasound prior to surgery so you can be comfortable with your decision. Whether or not you proceed with the surgery, please come on back and let us offer you some hugs and support. You are not alone! I am 36, and also have 4 little ones, and I think it is the mommy-terror we suffer more than anything. You will be okay. Hang in there!!!!! Marlene

thankyou
The notes of encouragement were great, forgive my spelling it is late and you would never guess that I also home-school lol. Marlene, you hit the nail on the head with the "MOMMY Terror" thing that you said. It is so scary to think of all that they depend on me for and so many things I have taken for granted. If nothing else comes of this, God has shown me not to disregard that little yellow dadelion that my four yr. old brings me with tight fist and dirty hands so afraid he might loose his treasure for mommy between the yard and the house. I have made an effort to really listen to my 12 and 10 year old, not just nod in the right places as I do fifty other mommy things, but to stop, make eye contact and LISTEN. I have held my nine month old long after he is asleep, and thanked God for my DH. I have quit smoking, six weeks now. The best lesson is to never end a hug first. Thank you all for your response, I felt so much better! P.R.
