Surgery yesterday, home and great tonight

Girls,

I had my uterus and cervix removed (emergency, no time to think about it) and have four small incisions in my belly. Another surgeon had to show up and assist using a laproscope. Any one know why? Most I have talked to just had a vaginal, no lap.

I'm doing really great pain wise, but the gas pains and bloating of belly are really severe. Any advise on how to get rid of the gas and reduce the swelling in my belly?

Thanks,
Betsy

Wow, can't believe you're home already!!!

that's incredible!!!! I'm surprised they let you come home already...did they make sure you had good bowel sounds? It may take you one or more days to even begin to pass gas, which can be pretty painful...
My advice (my nurses told me) is to get up and walk as much as you possibly can--get that gas moving around! Also be sure to drink LOTS of water and eat fruits, salads, etc...Some claim that GasX worked for them...for me, I just had to wait!
GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME HOME FROM THE CASTLE!
your crown's looking swell.

The lap allows them to actually view the ovaries, and the surrounding bowel and structures etc. for any adhesions, endometriosis, and any cysts or other growths. Also gives access with tools if needed. If you don't mind my asking, what type of emergency requires a hysterectomy?

I had my LAVH 4 weeks ago Friday and I'm feeling great. Drink lots of water and do a little walking around (the house) and the gas should diminish...once I felt like eating (it was a few days) I ate bran cereals for breakfast and apples for added fiber--lot of water...

Betsy, sounds like you had a surprise laparascopic hysterectomy. Congratulations. I had an LSH and have my cervix and right ovary. i came home the same day. I took Phazyme for my gas pains, two Fibercons a day, and finally, Milk of Magnesia. My bowel problems lasted just short of two weeks...and I have IBS! Drink tons of water and then drink more. Don't drink too much caffiene/carbonated beverages as they will dehydrate you or fill you with air. Eat sensibly and small meals...6X a day. Your belly will go down gradually. I was back in my "before" jeans in 3 weeks. Support underwear will be a big help when you start getting out.

Sleep, sleep sleep. Go to bed early, get up late, take a nap or two. I felt geometrically better when I slept. In fact, I slept so much the 2nd week I couldn't sleep anymore. Then walk, gently and often.

Good luck!!!

WOW

I cannot believe you are home already!! WONDERFUL
Gas *****! Gas-X and MOM did it for me. I still have a little bit, but those first few days were a bummer. I am 5 days post-op and am taking it nice and easy. Do those Kegal exercises too. It is helping me with regaining bladder confidence.... exercise all of those muscles down there nice and slow, small little squeezes. It has done me wonders......

these are my own experiances, my dr. did not recomend.........
