Anyone here work in a restaurant? How long till back at work?

I know that I still have a long time before I can get back to work ( 8 days post right now), but I was wondering of any of you ladies worked in a restaurant before your surgery. I am a manager so I don't really have to do any lifting, mostly just walking around talking to guests, clearing a few plates, then a few hours of sitting doing paperwork at the end of the nite. My general managers ex had a TAH, so he has a good idea of what my recovery is going to be like.

You had a abdominal surgery which will take 6-8 weeks. You shouldn't lift, bend, push, walk too much (a little maybe at week 2)
Don't over do it because you'll end up not healing well.
Just my humble opinion. I've had 4 abdominal surgeries. Two c-sec's, a TAH in Nov 2002 and a fistula repair Feb 2003 and I STILL don't feel 100% and listen to your body. It will tell you when you've done too much.

Good luck and please take it easy.

I work in an office... I had an LAVH, with a bladder sling requiring abdominal cut. I went back to work at 10 weeks. I still could not do a full day.. I would fatigue quickly. So don't rush it. Even standing is tiring. You only get the chance to heal once...

I am trying to take it easy right now. I cooked a little last night and it wiped me out!!! I have been taking it real easy today. I really don't want to do anything to make my recovery any longer!!

As someone who does work in the food service biz., I can tell you that there is NO WAY I am even considering going back early. There's always that day that can come up shortly after you get back when half your staff calls in and you have to do it all, not to mention all the walking and stuff that goes along with a normal day! Plus, don't forget when the orders come in and inventory.

I am taking my 6 weeks off and enjoying it. And as crazy as things are there right now, I'm in no hurry to get back.

Take care and take it easy!

Thanks for the reminder Jen!! You are absolutly right about the possibility of someone calling in and with "Murphy in the house " more likely than not it will happen as soon as I get back!! I think I'll take your advice and 'enjoy' my time off.
