aygestin

Hi all:

Have a question about Aygestin. I had a hysterscope and D & C last month 9/4, I just got my first period since the D & C and within 12hrs I was hemorraging. I went to the gyn (not my regular, I had to see his associate, the one that did the D & C is on vaca, figures!!).

Anyway, this gyn put me on Aygesin, a progestin, I was supposed to take 5 mgs 2-3 times a day til the bleeding got lighter, then 1 a day for 3 weeks. I see my reg gyn in about 2 weeks. I did get a rash on my chest last night, I had been on the aygestin maybe 24hrs at that point. I called since my pharmacist told my to call them if I develop a rash, ofcourse I talked to yet another gyn in the practice and he said I could stop it and see if the med was the cause, when I asked if the bleeding would get heavier again, he said yes, but to try to go two days without and if it did get heavy they would try something else.

What I did was reduce the dose, since the bleeding has gotten alot lighter, I was going to take 2.5 mgs twice a day. Does this seem like enough?

Anyone else have any problems with Aygestin and if so what did you do?

Thanks

Anna

Anna,
If you got a rash from the Aygestin, and the doctor told you not to use it, I think it is unwise for you to take ANY dose of it. There are other medications that can be used. Please call your doctor tomorrow and let him know what you did and to find out what he/she would like you to take in the future.
Best wishes,

Thanks Becky: Reducing the dose didn't seem to help tonite anyway, still itchy on my chest but not my neck now.

My reg gyn is away on vaca, i have an appt with him on the 11th.

Bleeding stopped, so hopefully will be ok till i see him again.

Thanks,

Anna

Anna,
I will keep my fingers crossed that you will be ok until your doctor gets back. If you do have a problem the doctor should have someone who is on call for him

Becky: My doc was on vaca when I called Friday about the heavy bleeding, I went in to see one of his assoc, then when I called today another assoc. called me back!!!

I want my dr back!!!!! (LOL)

I am 4 days into my period, hopefully the amount I took was enough to settle the bleeding down for awhile.

If it starts up heavy again, I will call them back.

Just wondering if it would be possible to substitute the progestin for bio-identical progesterone? Maybe since it is biologically the same as the progesterone in our bodies that it may not cause the same side effect as the synthetic form. It might be worth asking your doc when you get a chance to talk to him.

natural progesterone

BrendaLee:

Can you get the natural progesterone creams or gels through a reg pharmacy?

Would my doc have to order something special?

I am assuming alot of women here us the Natural progesterone,
is it as effective as the synthetic?

Thanks
