BM and Gas at 5 weeks post

Hi Fellow Princesses:

I know we talked about this before, but I can't believe I am having this problem AGAIN!!

Late yesterday I started having severe gas pains again!! I had a soda with lunch, NEVER thinking it would be a problem since I am 5 weeks post!!

I am also having problems with my bowels, off and on, with having to strain, which I have never ever had a problem with..not before or even after the hyst!

I had stopped the stool softeners about 1.5 weeks after hyst as my BM's got too loose..just continued on the gas med's..

Why doesn't the GasX work for me? I did use a suppository last night and had a BM without any straining..is this a problem?

I see my dr today for another post op and yes, I will tell him what has been happening..but don't you think I am alittle far out for this to be happening?

I quess I still can't drink any carbonated stuff..

Prior to my hyst and because of the Adenomyosis, I had alot of loose bowels, it was always cyclical in nature..now that is totally gone, which is kinda weird? I quess I should continue the stool softeners atleast every other day or maybe every 2-3 days?

Any insight will be appreciated..can't believe how painful this gas is again!!

Other than that I am aokay!!!

Hi Anna!

I would say that these symptoms can be classified as normal throughout the initial 6-8 week recovery period. It takes this long, typically, for your insides to heal enough to not be quite as tender as they may be right now.

Make sure and write yourself a list of questions and concerns to bring with you to the DR (if you're like me you'll forget to ask unless they're written down )

Please let us know how it goes for you - Keeping you in my thoughts and sending big ((((((((HUGS)))))))

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I would have expected this if I had any kind of rectocele repair, but I didn't have either the rectocele or the cystocele repairs done..and I was told they didn't have to manipulate my bowels during the surgery..which I quessed was a good thing?

I did write my questions down already, because yes, I too always forget something, lol!!

I'll let you know how I make out at my appt today.

Thanks again for your reply..I see you and I reply to alot of the same questions, you always give really good advice!!

Hi,

I am also five weeks post op and am continuing with the stool softener everyother day. Also still taking the gas-ex when I drink carbonated stuff, it seems to work ok. It does seem like this is lasting forever though, huh?

Good luck!

Hey Cindy:

Saw dr this afternoon, gotta go back on the stool softener, I thought that Senakot was a stool stoftener dr says no..have to use Colase every day for a week, then 2-3 days then 1-2 days.

Dr. says this is from the adenomyosis, when you have adeno you release prostoglandins (too much) which in turns leads to diariehha (which happened to me), once it's gone you can end up like me..consitpated!! Oh, well, atleast there is light at the end of the tunnel.. (Also, not eveyrone has symptoms of adeno before hyst)

I also have a cyst on my left ovary..explains the sharp pain at ovulation..had one on my right ovary prior to hyst (seems like they're gonna jump around)..sleeplessness is due to hormones, not gonna do anything about it right now..

See Dr again in 3 months, if I can find out where he is going..he hasn't gotten a new contract with the hospital yet..I've got to call back in May to find out !! He did tell me which hospitals he was looking at anyway..

Ok, alittle sore from the exam..(had to have a rectal)..

Take Care and I too hope this straightens out..will continue the gasx also!!!

Hi Anna,

I did get some senokot-s that's also a stool softener, haven't taken it yet because I'm still taking the colace and it seems to work. I also had adenomyosis and had the diarrhea, which seems to have disappeared after surgery too.

I'm also wondering about the cyst thing. I had a cyst on my right ovary when I had the surgery, the doctor left it there saying it would go away on its own. When I just ovulated, I had a bad pain on my left side. It could be because that's where I have a lump of scar tissue that's developed under the incision on that side, or a cyst. I don't go back to the doctor until May now. I guess no 6 week check-up.

No sleeplessness for me, just bad headaches. Guess you can't have everything!

Good luck with your doctor!

Hi Cindy:

I totally forgot the senakote-s!! I did pick up the Colace, just took it..hope it works for me..

I am alittle sore from the exam so sitting is alitte tough, plus I also have hemmoroids that have popped up from the straining, sheesh!!

I figured the adeno was causing the diarehha, since it was cyclical.

Hopefully the Colace will work well, I hear that it does..

How long do you take the Colace for? Can you take it for awhile as he doesn't want me taking it for too long.

I was also going to ask about the colace. My doctor never told me how long I could take it for. I've been taking it for 5 weeks now. I have a friend who is a ob/gyn, I'll have to ask her. I'm slowly trying to take myself off it.

Good luck with the sitting!

hi,anna. i can totally relate to the gas pain, even 8 MONTHS post-op!!!!! refraining from carbonated beverages for awhile(it took me till the holidays before being comfortable enough with drinking Pepsi)helped me,but i still had a lot of gas,post-op,and the gas caused my hemorrhoid to start bleeding,3 months post-op!!! i went to my GP,who did an internal rectal exam(no ob/gyn stuff, but same position on the table, stirrups and all!! eeeeeeeewwww!!!!). he said it's still inside, but probably it was the hyst that had caused it,with all the gas pressure!!!!! i'd had the hemorrhoid for almost 20 years,no bleeding till now!! sheesh!!! i feel good, aside from occasional pelvic cramping from ovulation(kept both ovaries, and they're really "up and running",now!). been walking quite a bit, lately. how are you exercising? walking is good for me. aerobics is a bit much, with all that bouncing. i went to New York,on the 10th of this month,to attend the International Beauty Show. talk about exercise!!!!!!! walking around the Jacob Javits Center is like walking several times around a football field. my knees were stiff, but my abdominal muscles felt good!!!!! i kept walking last week, and got all the tightness out of my quads!! wow!!! by the way, where'd you have your hyst? i had mine at Frankford Hospital-Torresdale. my ob/gyn is chairwoman of the OB/GYN department. it's part of the Jefferson Health System,so i know i was in excellent hands. good luck with your doctor!!!!! hope you find out where he went,so you don't have to change doctors.
