Removal of cervix after STAH

Its been a while since I posted but just had a question. I had my surgery March 18 02, kept my cervix and one ovary. I have had mini periods that are becoming more than mini. I saw the dr. on Friday and she did silver nitrate but also suggested the possibility of further surgery for the removal of my cervix. It is "fragile"? and bleeds when touched etc. Has anyone had this complication and what does this surgery involve. I am waiting for results of a pap and other tests but it looks like a strong possibility. Thanks Lori McR

Lori,

I don't have any experience with this either. Sorry. but I have seen many posts where ladies have had trouble with post-op bleeding and their dr's put them on a cream to help with that. I believe it was a progesterone cream of sorts. I don't know if that would be an option foryou since you have kept your cervix but it's sure worth asking the dr about. I hope you get this straightened out soon.

Did the dr say if it would be a rather simple procedure? Outpatient or inpatient? If the only problem seems to be coming from the cervix itself it may not be a bad idea to have it removed. An added plus is that you wouldnt have any more "mini" periods either. Good luck in whatever you decide and keep us posted.

I'm sure someone will come along soon who can offer you some advice. Just wanted to send you some 's

Removal of cervix after STAH

Hi Lori, I had a supracervical hysterectomy and started having mini-periods about 6 months after my surgery. As time went by, my periods became heavier and I went back to my surgeon. On 11 July, I had my cervix and ovaries removed. The surgery was a lap-assisted vaginal removal and I was in the hospital overnight. The recovery was a lot easier than the one following my hyst. I probably could have returned to work after 2 weeks, but I took 4 weeks off.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Laura
