TAH - WOOHOOO!!!!!!! Lovin' This!!!!!!

From the Abdominal Hysterectomy Stories Articles List

Hello to all,

My name is Nikki and I had a TAH on Friday November 7th, due to endo and lack of ovulation (causing 10 day periods every 3 weeks), yuck!
Since I just turned thirty, it took awhile to convince my doctor that I not only needed this surgery but my mental well being was starting to depend on it. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my Doc but he is one of those types that want you to try looking in the mirror and explaining to yourself everyday that infertility doesn't make you any less of a woman. Which is all fine and good unless it is YOU that is crying every time you start your period and then they start coming more than once a month...sheesh, there was only so many times I could boost my own ego before I started to crack...In 1995 I had two surgeries, one for an ovarian cyst which required the removal of my right tube and ovary, and the second was a corrective surgery to reshape my left tube which looked something like a pig's tail. In each surgery endometriosis was lasered from everything that it attached to, and in my case it had attached to EVERYTHING.
The very next year my husband and I adopted our daughter, I was fulfilled. I had NO desire to wait any longer to get rid of the pain. Not that I would have been upset with a little miracle but we have our miracle and I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak.
OK, jump ahead 7 years. My body decided I had not had enough wonderful surprises and I stopped ovulating. So my periods just started coming whenever they wanted and staying however long they felt comfortable. I then tried various hormones and nothing worked. Well, I was done. At this point I had had enough. I waltzed myself into my doctor's office and told him that SOMEONE was going to take my insurance company's money and get this over with. Finally, he looked at me and I could tell he knew I was about to break. He agreed and 4 weeks later I checked into the castle.
Ahhh, now the story you wanted to hear huh? hahaha
I checked into the women's center of our local hospital on Friday morning and it was all over by 10 a.m.
By Friday night I was coherent and moving around. At 5:30 Saturday morning my foley and iv were removed and I was up and moving. I was home by 1 p.m. on Sunday. I am able to get up and around and shower and I even shaved my legs yesterday. My left ovary is still hanging in there (no pun intended).
So, no HRT is RX'd for me and I hope I am good to go from here on out.
I know that this is a forum that is suppposed to be used just to describe the hospital stay but I can't help sharing what I consider my "whole" castle story, the hospital part is the ending and new beginning to a very long story. My story. I hope that the new chapters of this story are much more uneventful and a lot less painful. Thanks for bearing through this long post and I hope you are not snoring yet, I can't beleive how wonderful it feels to have an ending to this story and to share it with those who, without a doubt understand every single bit of it!
Thanks again for a forum to get this out and share what feels like a million pounds just lifted off my shoulders!
Nikki
