Dear Ladies,

Currently there is a bill in Congress that needs your support.

HR: 3438 "Johanna's Law: The Gynecologic Cancer Education & Awareness Act".

This bill is needed because:
  • Early detection is the key to successful treatment of gynecologic cancers. The five year survival rates for the most common gynecologic cancers are 90 percent when diagnosed in tage one or stage two, but the survival rates top to 50 percent or lower for cancers diagnosed later.
  • While diagnosis and treatment techniques are becoming more refined and accurate for gynecologic cancers, we still have more than 82,000 women newly diagnosed in the US each year with nearly 29,000 deaths from these cancers annually.
  • Gynecologic cancers such as Ovarian and Endometrial cancer do not yet have a reliable screening test that can be used for the general population. ALthough lab tests can help specialist decide whether more invasive tests are needed, for all gynecologic cancers except cervical cancer, surgery is still required to confirm the presence of cancer.
  • Most women are still unaware of their risk factors and the early symptoms of gynecologic cancers, which can easily be confused with common gastrointestinal illnesses, menopause and perimenopause.

This bill would authorize a national gynecological cancer early detection and awareness campaign directed at women and their providers.

Please Support Johanna's Law!

Please help us move this bill towards passage by calling or e-mailing your Representative today and ask them cosponsor Johanna's Law immediately. If your representative has already signed on, please be sure to thank them.
