TAH - Positive All The Way!!!!

I am one day shy of 6 weeks post-op and I feel better than I could have ever imagined. I stressed SO MUCH pre-op, but I had such a good experience. My Dr. is young, only 35 y/o, just a baby really, but he is SO talented. He did a great job, answered ALL my questions (full page typed!). Surgery was long, and I lost a lot of blood, but recovered quickly enough to go home after two night stay in hospital. Incision healed well, and I only have slight tenderness when I over-do it. Swelly-belly seems to be a fact of life for me, but I am still hopeful. Lost 5 pounds within first week, so that helped me get into my clothes even with swelly-belly.

My dear father stayed with me for a week post-op & it helped a lot, as I thought I'd have to go it alone. I couldn't have done it without him, because I have a hyper 10 month old puppy who needed to be walked several times a day. Having the company helped cheer me too! No feeling sorry for myself, and not so many tears - but cried when Daddy left to go home!!

Pain was controlled with meds, and I slept well at night. Had to keep pillow on tummy so dog would not jump on me, but she got me a couple of times. Not too many actual naps, but lots of rest with periodic walks. Able to function surprisingly well, and was doing household chores within two weeks. Only real problems were a bladder infection & fatigue - which still plagues me.

Now back at work and only have pain in my 'tailbone' as we say in the south. May be colon related, and have nothing to do with surgery. Am up to my usual walks with the dog, but am sore after work & have to slow down the pace at night. Looking forward to continued improvement on a daily basis!!
