Unlike a lot of sisters, my hyster was NOT a big surprise for me. I have had six reproductive surgeries in the past ten years, the first one at 17. After that surgery, doc told me he would have done a hyst then if I hadn't been so young. I had bled all except for 8 days that year, and it wouldn't be the last time. Becoming pregnant was very dificult, but staying pregnant was even more difficult. My uterus was never normal, and it gave me immense problems. In January 2005, I went in for my yearly pap smear. I had watched my belly getting bigger since October last year, so I knew what he had to say would be bad. Well, to make a long story short, it had become a necessity to have the hyst. So, I reported bright and early on March 21, 2005 to the hospital. My knees were knocking, and my entire body was jerking, as I am TERRIFIED of surgery. I told the nurse in admitting to please hurry with the IV, because if I didn't get a sedative, I was going to chicken out! A lovely nurse promptly showed up and started my IV, and began administering versed in small doses into my IV. I remember very little after that, until I woke up in recovery in the worst pain I had ever experienced. Another lovely nurse gave me a very pleasant shot of demerol in my butt, and I felt MUCH better. I was wheeled to my room, where my DH and my mom were waiting on me. I proceeded to tell my DH to punch the intern who had wheeled me to my room, b/c she was ROUGH! Six hours later, I begged my doc to have the catheter removed, and *WISH GRANTED* it was gone! Anoter three hours later, and the IV went the way of the catheter. I was still on liquids, because even the thought of dinner made me queasy. I then proceeded to walk the halls. Took a shower at 3 in the morning. RN was shocked when she came in and I was in my own pajamas. At about 8, my gyn came in and asked how I was. I told him I was great, and could I come home, please? He looked kind of startled, but agreed. Over the next couple of weeks I had setbacks, but they were all minor. It has now been nine weeks since Autn Flo was last here, and six weeks since surgery. And I know in my heart I made a great choice in this surgery! I am also so thankful for this site, because there is nothing like having another woman to talk to about this stuff!
