SHARING IS CARING

My LSH experience

From the Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Stories Articles List

Let me give you a backdrop of how I ended up having an LSH (Lap. SupraCervical Hyst) I had my first child (son) when I was 18 years of age. 2 years later I had an abortion and began to have irregular periods. I would bleed 12-15 days straight. I would go off one week and then come right back on. My dr. put me on BC's to control my cycles and it worked. I came off the BC's and got pregnant and had a miscarriage. My dr. put me back on the BC's to control my cycle again as they have began to be irregular again. He then said if you have another child I can almost guarantee your cycle will correct itself. Well at the age of 27 I got married had my second child (daughter) at age 28 and my cycle returned to normal. Normal for 10 whole years. The bleeding returned with cramps and my dr the same one over all these years. Says let's do an ultrasound which he had done in the past but saw nothing. This time I had fibroids. Cool, Nothing to be alarmed about. Some women have then and they never have symptoms. Anyway, we do a D&C and it the tissue is sent to the lab and comes back normal. Never had an abnormal paps either. So, we discuss my options, I go back on BC's to no avail. They were like eating sweet tarts would bleed right through the whole pack. Not real heavy bleeding but annoying bleeding. Then after a year of that we decide to do something more permanent. My dr discussed all of my options with me. So, my husband and I decided to do a LSH it was scheduled in January of 09, I was scared to death. I read everything on this site (warning- don't do that) I was so afraid that I canceled. So, we decided to do the wait and watch approach, things got worst. fluid retention, blood not circulating properly, heartburn.....Anyway, my gave me 2 options that was an ablation or the LSH. He doesn't do myomectomy's in his own study he believe that the fibroids grows back over a period of time especially if you are not close to menopause (10 years or less). You know I gotta trust him, I've been with him forever. So, my dr drops the bomb on me that he is leaving my HMO. Oh no! He says I want to take care of all of my oldest patients before I leave. I had decided to do an ablation already, until one day I thought I was in labor. My dr felt like that an ablation would not help the cramping and that the bleeding could start up again after a year or so, it's not guaranteed. My husband and I discussed it and decided with our original decision the LSH. So, in August I got the phone call for 10/27/09. I got to the hospital at 7:30am surgery scheduled at 10:30am. I register, go give blood and then wait to be called back. I am called 20 minutes later. I head to pre op, I change clothes get the iv hooked up and my daughter and husband come back and sit with me. By this time it's 8:30. 2 hours later my dr comes in and talks to me and my family. Then the nurses, anesthesiologist. Then 10 minutes later I am being wheeled to OR. I was never afraid at all ( first surgery). My dr explained the procedure to me thoroughly, twice as a matter of fact. I get in the OR and they began to hook me up to all the machines. My dr is there rubbing my arm and we are talking about siblings. I am now breathing into the gas mask. the anesthesiologist says here comes the happy juice. Then I waking up in recovery. Surgery was Tuesday home Wednesday. My dr said my uterus was larger than expected and I loss 2 pints of blood. Also, I started to come out from the anesthesia too early so they had to give me a little more. No blood transfusion. 3 small incisions. Feeling well being the 4th day post op. Only had a little nausea on the 3rd day. other than that all is well. Would I do it again if I had to yes. God is the first that get the glory and then there is my that God use to make me better. My even called me at home on Wednesday night. I was sleep but he talked with my daughter. What a doll.
