SHARING IS CARING

my TAH story

From the Abdominal Hysterectomy Stories Articles List

I suffered for years with miserable PMS, pelvic infections, and painful periods. When I reached my forties I started bleeding bad and had every test . Found out I had fibriods. They put me on low dose birth control pills and it helped with the bleeding and pain. They thought maybe the fibroids would get smaller as I went into menopause. Well by the time I hit 46 , the pain returned and my tummy swelled up on one side. My GYN did
a ultra sound and saw that I had a large fibroid and she let me say what needed to be done immediately (TAH). So I had my very painful surgery and the complications began. First the day after surgery I had a blood transfusion, then I noticed my shoulder and knee were in great pain. They must have mishandled the way they moved me when I was under . So
I had to have physical therapy and eventually knee surgery.
After being home for only a week from TAH, I started vomiting really bad and had to be taken to emergency. I felt like I was being poisoned. Found out I had a bowel obstruction and had to have a tube pushed down my throat. It finally cleared itself out and I did not have to go back into surgery.
I got released to go home after 9 days. I looked like a very skinny war victim. It took a long time before I could eat normal food again. My dear precious husband was the best nurse a hyster girl could have. Now , 12 years later I am very healthy and want to support all hyster sisters I can.
