Bleeding after Sex
From the Ask a Doctor - Hysterectomy Related Questions Articles List
I had a partial hysterectomy in August of last year with no problems. After having sex recently I noticed bright blood in the bed and when I wiped, It stopped overnight with just a little pink discharge this morning. I, also, had cramps which haven't stopped completely. Should I be concerned? What causes this?
Answered by Susan Hunter, M.D.
You should call your doctor and get checked. The most likely problem is something called "granulation tissue" which is just an overgrowth of normal skin at the vaginal incision which bleeds very easily. It is usually treated at the office visit and no big deal.

By partial hysterectomy, do you mean that your ovaries were left? Was your cervix left?
1) If your cervix was left you may have some uterine lining cells in the cervix that can cause bleeding. It would be important to have an examination and a pap smear.
2) If your cervix was not left, you may have some granulation tissue that would need to be addressed by your Gynecologist.
Either way, I would recommend that you have an examination by your surgeon.
