da Vinci® as a Hysterectomy optionda Vinci® Hysterectomy

Definition: The daVinci, or robotic, hysterectomy is a minimally invasive surgery to remove your uterus using a speciality patient side cart to hold the surgeon's instruments while the surgeon controls the tools from a console nearby. One or more small incisions are needed in your belly.
Acronym: dVH or RALH

Description of procedure: This procedure is done through the use of a surgical robotic device guided and aided by a surgeon. The uterus is cut up into small pieces and removed through the tubes which were inserted into the abdomen OR the uterus is "delivered" vaginally.

Initial Recovery: Expect 2 to 4 weeks of recovery, with lifting and straining restrictions for this whole period. It is also normal to expect to have a restriction on intercourse for the whole of the initial recovery period.
