Hyst from Beginning to End

This site helped me so much when I was getting ready for my surgery. So I want to give back. I had fibroids they said it was like I was seven months pregnant is how big they where. I was having really bad cramps and bleeding for fourteen days out of the month and one week of PMS and bleeding heavy with tampons and pads being soaked every 2 hours. I was suffering from Anemia and I needed a blood transfusion. I was always tired and cramping and bleeding.

I had the fibroid removed once in 2001 and they came back. So I decided to have a hysterectomy and the Dr said most women who have those other procedures end up having a hyster more often than not. I kept my ovaries to prevent going into menopause. Now I will have menopause when it's time naturally.

I had the Lupron shot and it stopped the bleeding pretty much. I still had a period but not as heavy and I was able to take the iron pills called floradix floravital it can be purchased in most health food stores and does not make you constipated I bought my bottle from wholefoods. If you do not like the flavor of the liquid you can buy tablets online and they may have them at the wholefood store as well.

After 3 months on Lupron and getting my iron up I was scheduled for surgery on May 8, 2013. I was in the hospital overnight. I had the minimal invasive surgery. there are four small marks on my stomach they look like moles and even smaller than some of my moles and my uterus was cut into 3 pieces and pulled out a whole on the side of my vagina which is great and the reason why I do not have a big mark on my stomach.

After surgery I got out of bed and walked pretty fast after the nurse said the more I moved the better I would feel and I started to feel better once they got the pain under control. I went to the bathroom a lot overnight because I had the IV in all day while I waited 6 hours to get the surgery due to scheduling conflict. But I was not leaving without my surgery so I set patiently and waited. The put the IV in because I could not drink water and they did not want me to dehydrate. Luckily I had my daughter with me who is a Nurse Assistant who helped me go to the restroom a lot all night. The nurses did not seem like they would want to help me. The next morning I went home around noon.

I was happy to go home because some of the nurses where mean. I was ok the first week but the second week I was crying because I could not make it to the kitchen to eat so that I could take a pain pill. I have never not been able to move around it was hard.

Luckily my daughter loved me enough to move in with me during recovery. She came home just in time to get me something to eat so I can take a pain pill without getting an upset stomach. But other than that one day I was getting around pretty well.

I was driving after 3 weeks but could not drive far. Finally the 6th week I could drive without pain. Still moving a little slow but driving and getting around by myself. I still have not gone grocery shopping yet. But I do the dishes and make my bed and shower myself from day one.

It took about 5 weeks for the Lupron to wear off and to stop having hot flashes. After 6 weeks I still have one every now and then. But nothing like before. Overall I am so happy I had it done and I feel so much better. Now I can live and wear colors like white, yellow and pink and not worry about soaking my clothes. I did have one moment of sorrow that I cannot have kids but I really do not want to have kids at this point in my life and I do have a daughter and 3 grandkids 7,6 and 2. I can keep them anytime I want.

I am 43 years old and I am so much happier and pain free it is worth it. I am in my 7th week and going to my postop on Thursday. I plan to go back to work fully next week. Although I was working the second day home because I work from home as a real estate agent and I have an assistant. But I did paperwork and made phone calls the
2nd day but I wish I could have gotten more rest. So this week I plan to sleep a lot more until I go back to work fully next week.

I sincerely hope this information helps someone like this site helped me when I was getting ready and trying to make decisions about Lupron and getting the surgery. Oh yeah I lost 5 pounds after the surgery due to the fibroid removal. I think that covers all the questions I had before surgery I HOPE this helps others.
