Do This – Not That- Preparing for HysterctomyWhat are the top dos and don’ts for the days before my hysterectomy?

A hysterectomy is a major surgery with a lot of variables affecting its outcome. You can do your part to make things go well by following these simple do’s and don’ts in the days before your hysterectomy.

DO THIS:

NOT THAT:

  • Do not pack any valuables or a lot of extras.
  • Do not alter your bowel prep instructions.
  • Do not take any medications or supplements unless specifically okayed by your surgeon.
  • Do not eat or drink after midnight (or time given you at your pre op appointment).
  • Do not shave or wax unless your doctor's gives you permission.
  • Do not plan to drive yourself home.
  • Do not ignore your need for girlfriend time.
  • Do not turn down offers of assistance.
  • Do not be embarrassed.
Your hysterectomy is about you, but you don’t have to do it alone! If you allow them, you probably have several family members, friends, neighbors, and co-workers who will be happy to lend a hand. There are also many women at HysterSisters.com who are willing to lend their support and share their tips for preparing before hysterectomy and recoverng after hysterectomy.
