What are the top dos and don’ts for hysterectomy recovery? What are the top dos and don’ts for hysterectomy recovery?

A hysterectomy is a major surgery with a lot of variables that can affect its outcome. There can also be a lot of unrealistic expectations following this surgery. Your boss may expect you to be back work earlier than your body is ready. Your family may believe you only need a few days break before you will be able to return to all of your normal tasks. Friends who are not HysterSisters may wonder why you can't meet them for Girls Night Out. Your co-workers may think you are simply on vacation. You may even believe that recovery is overrated and you'll only need a couple days before you will be back on your feet 100%.

Your recovery is a very important part of your hysterectomy and having it go well will contribute to how successful your surgery really is. You can do your part by following these simple dos and don’ts:

DO THIS
NOT THATIf you are unsure about whether or not an activity is okay for you during your recovery, give your doctor a call and ask. Your doctor is your partner so feel free to ask him/her any questions you have about dos and don'ts, symptoms, and other concerns during your recovery. You only have one chance to heal right the first time, so you want to take full advantage of it!
