Beauty sleep in Menopause
All this time you thought it was a myth, but beauty sleep is a fact. It’s your most natural beauty product. It might even be your fountain of youth. With a good night’s sleep, you really will look better.

How? While you sleep, your body works to restore, repair, and rejuvenate itself. If you don’t get enough sleep, your body doesn’t have the time it needs to get everything done.

You know that sleep is important for your overall health, and that's especially true during menopause. Let's look at some of the benefits of beauty rest.

Nicer Skin

Menopause takes a toll on your skin in a number of ways, so you need to do what you can to keep it looking healthy. A key factor: getting enough sleep.

Collagen keeps your skin looking plump so that it doesn’t sag or wrinkle. And when is collagen made? While you sleep. It’s also during sleep that your body sheds old, dead cells that can leave your skin looking dull and old. Your skin also hydrates while you're getting some shut-eye.

Without enough sleep, your body does not have the time it needs to complete its tasks, causing it to overreact. It assumes there's a crisis, so it starts sending blood to vital organs instead of your skin. You’re left with acne, blemishes, and unattractive dark circles under your eyes.

If you want your skin looking healthier, and even more youthful, give your body at the 8 hours of sleep it needs each night to do its job.

Healthier Hair

Like the rest of your skin, blood flow to your scalp is increased while you sleep. Why is that important? That blood is delivering vital nutrients to your hair and scalp. Without enough sleep, your body can’t complete that nighttime delivery. Too little nutrients to the hair follicles causes weaker roots and hair loss. Your hair may also lose its shine and luster.

Weight Control

If you aren’t getting enough sleep, there’s a good chance you are packing on some extra pounds. The more hours you’re awake, the more apt you are to munch. When you're tired, it's easier to choose junk foods and not stick to a healthy diet. Your body also goes into survival mode with sleep deprivation, slowing your metabolism and storing extra fat.

If you want help managing your weight, get at least 8 hours of shut-eye every night. Your body can then get back on a normal schedule rather than running in crisis mode.

A Happy Smile

If you’re sleep deprived, you probably don't feel like smiling. You’ll feel tired, depressed, and stressed. And if you’ve been doing some late night snacking, you may also want to hide your smile because of the impact on your teeth, such as plaque build up and stains.

Getting those needed 8 hours of sleep will let you wake up looking and feeling better, giving you several reasons to smile.

Sleeping during menopause can be challenging, but you owe it to yourself to get adequate rest. You’ll look and feel better, and your menopause symptoms may even lessen. Start keeping a sleep diary and create a sleep routine you can follow each night. You’ll love the results!
