Hormones | Saliva Testing

From the Menopause and Hormones Articles List

Should I order a saliva test to measure my hormones?Should I order a saliva test to measure my hormones?

Saliva tests had a very quick rise and fall. They gained popularity through alternative practitioners and a book called Hormone Balance Made Simple by the late John D. Lee, which promoted the tests as an effective way to measure hormone levels.

While it would be nice to have such a simple, non-invasive test, it is not yet a reality. While hormones are detectable through saliva, there is simply no scientific evidence to back up the claim that they can accurately measure and, therefore, determine a solution for your hormonal imbalance. There are too many variables (diet, time of day, etc.) that could affect salivary hormone levels.

Fortunately, your body's responses usually make for a pretty accurate measure of your hormone levels. You can explore some of these indicators in our article Hormones | The Balancing Act. If you need further information, consult your doctor and request blood tests.
